Meh, the Mark Stone thing is so irrelevant regarding the Flames. It was clearly never going to happen seeing Tree was simply not going to part ways with any of what Ottawa wanted. So why waste the time fighting a completely made up scenario that has zero bearing on reality?

No... again, could vs. should.
Had they chosen to acquire Stone, cap space would not have been an issue for the Flames. They would have found a way to accommodate for Stone's increased salary by trading away higher-salary mid-level players like Frolik, Ryan, Mike Stone, etc. This is exactly what Vegas is doing, proving that a lack of cap space did not stand in the way of them acquiring Stone.
However, I am glad that they did not pursue this avenue because, while they could have fit Stone's salary in, they are better off maintaining organizational depth.
The Flames very easily could have found ways to fit Stone in, though. It was most certainly possible for him to become a Flame long-term. But the Flames opted to preserve their depth instead of consolidating their value.
Anyway, this is pointless.
edit below: no drama, Chonger. Just a bit of late-night chat. Just trying to get on the same page!

One of these things is not like the other.
How can you say that plays died on the stick of someone who was over a ppg?

34 goals, preceded by 31, 27, and 27.
You’re right, plays on Monahan’s stick die right into the net.

- 24 years old
- 6 nhl seasons
- 22G, 31G, 27G, 27G, 31G, 34G
I wonder how many players in the history of the game have had 3x 20G seasons and 3x 30G seasons by the age of 24.

Eeesh I was mostly just having some fun.
You're right though, Sean Monahan is one of the greatest players in this history of the game.
Have a good long weekend!

I think this is myth making. Face saving from the flames after walking away from the deadline with only fantenberg.
Couldn't trade for stone because couldn't re-sign him due to tagging room restrictions.
Cost to acquire included taking back neal which is why Tre said a couple of times that the sens were after multiple 1sts, valimaki And Andersson, but settled for brannstrom and a 2nd from Vegas.
If it was only valimaki, the flames would've pulled the trigger.
What complicated things was Calgary HAD to send back salary and Vegas didn't. As we are all seeing right now, cap space has value.

It seems the talks got pretty specific so I don’t know about “it was never going to happen”.
It’s not of interest to imagine what the team would look like if Treliving had pulled the trigger?
