Everytime I watched Turris he looked bad. The same level bad as Neal. And his deal runs longer.

Well I don’t know who we’re signing so I can’t exactly ballpark that can I?
Is that gonna use up all the 20 million I was talking about? Likely not. Rittich will make under 4 I’m guessing. Hopefully under 3.

Well that's the point.
About $14 million to sign Tkachuk, Bennett, 2 goalies and a couple more forwards like Hathaway or a replacement.
That's not enough so everything else requires trading guys with no salary coming back.
Sorry but that's not a team swimming in cap space.

I think that adds up to $18-21M - hence the need to trade Brodie for picks. There is no cap room, unless the Flames can shed Stone and Frolik without taking significant salary back.

Anyone that thinks we’re keeping all of Stone, Brodie and Frolik is living in a fantasyland. There will be cap space freed up.

I don't think anybody believes the Flames are keeping all 3. We simply can't.
Tkachuk + Rittich + Goalie 2 + Bennett + Mangiapane with $13M~ in space. Ballpark guesses of $7.5M for Tkachuk, $5M for both goalies, $2.5M for Bennett, $1M for Mangiapane = $16M, putting us over $84.5M with no moves.
We are for sure freeing up money somehow, but it's going to be tight even if we can move one of those 3 out and get picks back only.

I think trading Stone + Brodie would really solidify a struggling team's second D pairing.
But as has been noted, its going to have to be for picks/prospects, but it isnt inconceivable.

Stone is likely not solidifying anyone’s top 4.
Although he could be a 4 on some bad teams.
But a bad team is likely not going to give up draft picks for one year rentals unless the cost is peanuts, and Calgary wants some decent picks for Brodie at least.

Unless the flames bring in another great playmaker, there's no way Neal is going to be a producer playing with guys like Backlund, Bennett, jankowski, czarnik, Ryan. None of these players are elite play makers, allowing Neal to park himself in good one time/sniping locations.
|
100% this.
Having him with jankowski who isn’t very good, is not going to get him where we need him to be.

I would think Dallas could use Brodie. H
Would Brodie and Calgarys 1st for Faksa and Dallas's 1st work. We gain some size at forward, some cap space and a better prospect?

Jankowski is pretty similar to Faksa. I don't see the point in acquiring him.
Dallas was already the second best defensive team in the league. Do they really need to be acquiring defensemen? And Klingberg is already great on their top powerplay unit.
If the Flames loved someone who could be picked at 18, I wouldn't hate the deal. I just don't think it makes that much sense.

I think Brodie gets moved for a 2nd and a 3rd.
I can also see Brodie and Bennett go to Toronto in a Kadri deal.

Neil had a, what, 4.5 percent shooting percentage? He had ample opportunity to score and failed. Blamed his old stick not being produced any more, too. What a dud.
He had ample opportunity to play somewhat of a 2 way game and floated.
Too much of James Neal’s crappy year is on James Neal, to blame line mates

Brodie should be able to get a better return than Braun.
Toronto deal is brutal
