Brayden Tracey - ranked 21st in NA - also met with three NHL teams twice - Tampa, the Leafs who brought him in for additional testing and his hometown Calgary Flames.
He is projected to go in the second round no? He is ranked anywhere from 36-55.

Just because he is projected by some analysts doesn't mean the Flames aren't going to take him in the 1st round if they really like him.

Hey now, if his name is Brayden and Tampa has interest, I'm all in!

I agree, I just know that there was some discussion surrounding the flames moving down a little, or trading a piece for more picks. This certainly contributes to that narrative.

Maybe not. Tampa picks at #27 and doesn't have a 2nd rounder. If they also want Tracey, good chance they pick him there.

Moving down or using a later acquired pick might not help the Flames in that scenario.

Tracey is interesting for a couple reasons IMO.

1 - A little younger for this draft year being 17 for pretty much the entire jr. season

2 - Crazy numbers for what was really his rookie season in the WHL, usually take people some time to adjust to a new league.

His 1.23 PPG placed him 2nd in the WHL for U18 players but most of the other guys were in there 2nd WHL season at least.

Cozens - 1.24 PPG - 60 WHL Games Prior to this season
Tracey - 1.23 PPG - 5 WHL Games Prior to this season
Dach - 1.18 PPG - 77 WHL Games Prior to this season
Bryam - 1.06 PPG - 60 WHL Games Prior to this season
Krebs - 1.06 PPG - 63 WHL Games Prior to this season

Rest of those guys are ranked in the top 10 and from a pure production standpoint Tracey is right there even though he only had played 5 WHL games coming into this year.

Think the biggest concern with Tracey is how much was driven by his older linemates - 80 of his 81 points were generated with Almeida and Langan on the ice.

Lots of speculation coming out of Vancouver that the Canucks are trying to trade up to move in front of the Oilers and take Broberg before the Oilers have a chance to.

Yep, d men are definitely going to go a lot higher tomorrow. Dropping more than a few good fes down to the Flames area. Man trading down could be super beneficial.

@JDylanBurke
Thoughts on circulating rumour that #Canucks are considering moving up to leapfrog Edmonton for Broberg:

1) It's my understanding that Canucks scouting staff aren't as keen on Broberg (they prefer Soderstrom, even) as management.

2) Moving up for Broberg is not a move I endorse

You can never, ever, ever believe anything this time of year as teams always leak false information. Usually when you hear leaks a team isn't high on a player that means they are in fact high on that player.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Just chatting with Craig Conroy and Tod Button of the #Flames here in Van. A few notes:

-moving up from 26 going to be tough. Moving down more likely.
-trade market quiet relative to other years.
-team has a goalie they like at 26.
-wide open at 26 overall. Really wide variance.

Oh boy. What goalie do they like at 26? Tre said Knight would be gone by the time they pick.

Sogaard I bet - 6’6 but great movement in the crease

Yeah, until they have proven that they have a development team capable of maximizing goalie prospects, please don't draft anymore.

Keep drafting defensemen and developing them.

Use them and trade for the rest.

Mads Sogaard, Medicine Hat (WHL)
NHL Central Scouting: No. 2 (North American goalies)

Sogaard (6-7, 199) was 19-8-4 and led WHL rookie goalies with a 2.64 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage and three shutouts in 37 games. He had a .919 save percentage in six WHL playoff games. Jensen said Sogaard reminds him of Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne; he has a huge net presence, positions himself well and has very good rebound control.

That’s some questionable logic.

1) our development team seems to have developed Rittich just fine which kind of invalidates your logic from the very start
2) you don’t seem to acknowledge the other parts of the equation, the goalies themselves are a bigger part of the equation than the development team.

Can’t have it both ways. You can’t blame our development team for Gillies and then give all the credit to Rittich for his development. Both the development team and the goalie are parts of the equation.

So the idea that we shouldn’t draft a goalie is quite a silly one.

Why can’t it be Knight? He’s a goalie they like at 26 if he happens to be there. They don’t think he’ll be there but you never know. They didn’t think Parsons was still gonna be there when they drafted him.
