Adrian Dater. BSN Denver - 2nd. 1st to Brent Burns

Actually it looks like Brennan voted Gio, Botchford voted Carlson.

I get the Hedman and Burns votes, but Carlson? They should be removed from voting.

That year I was 14 years old and this snub forever left me cynical about the NHL awards. It was all reaffirmed in 2002 with Iggy but I guess you can at least understand the argument against him that year (playoffs).
Glad Gio got it, well deserved, but I'm still gonna go on being cynical.
Agree. Macinnis should have won in ‘89, too.

Even though I knew Gio was gonna bring home the Norris, I couldn't bring myself to watch the NHL Awards. I watched the last couple and they were a 12/10 on the cringe meter
Back to the positive, Gio deserves it in a big way.
The guy plays top minutes against other team's top line(s). He's a player with grit, smarts, skill, and a huge heart.
If we had a few more players with the heart the size of Gio, we would be steamrolling teams like the Avs in the first round of the playoffs.
It is interesting to me that you are not only willing to give Giordano a pass for his playoff performance, but to go one step further and laud him as an example for other players to follow, considering that he was equally bad as most of the Flames's glaringly ineffective top players.
I am not in any way disparaging Giordano. (I have long been on record that this year's playoff debacle was the result of various random, correctable factors, and I expect much better next year.) Rather, I am pointing out the peculiar discrepancy in how some posters choose to evaluate certain players over others.
Anyhow, Giordano is awesome.

I mean he's not wrong. If we had 5 Gios running around, we probably steam roll any team in the playoffs haha.
I didn't think Giordano was especially bad in the playoffs. The biggest issue was that Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm were badly outplayed by Rantanen-MacKinnon-Landeskog.

Carlson is a poor choice, if they even skimmed through enough of Gio's games, they'd see he clearly had the better season. Hopefully those writers are mainly covering eastern teams cause they obviously don't watch the west.
It was a landslide otherwise though so no big deal.

Chicago, Nashville, Vancouver and Denver beat writers were 4 of 6.

Botchford is Vancouver and Glennon is Nashville. They each saw more of Gio than Carlson, in all likelihood
Most sports writers have no more knowledge or expertise than for average avid fan. They just happen to have a job that gives them a platform to articulate their opinions.
We really shouldn't put a lot of stock into their opinions, other than that they are likely representative of the overall fan base in general.
