I understand that.

The price of poker. Cost Treliving some very good players to get him.

Treliving bet on his future performance. Won a humongous pot.

Good bet. Lindholm nearly doubled his previous season best point total.

5th rounder was the cost for Flyers. Not much of an acquisition cost. Hence, the added salary cost.

Hextall did a good job of sticking to the plan and putting the personnel and cap structure in place to compete. He lost his job because he wouldn't throw around money and make headlines, like the ownership wanted him to do.

Enter Fletcher.

Hextall did everything to set up a winner, but got fired because he was literally too good at his job for the Flyers. I think that the Flyers will be 80% of a contender by the time the season rolls around, and that's kind of sad.

So if I were to tell you that two line mates in college were Kevin Hayes and Johnny Gaudreau, which one would you pick to earn more money the next 3 seasons?

unreal.

Even after some of the contracts you see lately, this one this surprised me. Really like him as a player, but good grief, that's a lot of cash.

Is there like some sort of Stroke Epidemic among NHL GMs?

WTF is going on here? Kevin Hayes? Are you serious?

I hope Treliving is either on holidays or in some sort of quarantine throughout all of this.

Kevin Hayes is making north of $7M?

Yeah. No. Madness.

I don’t understand these deals. The cap is going up only about 2-2.5 million. Multiply that by 31 teams, and there’s is roughly 70 million league wide allotted for player raises. The List of guys coming of Entry Level deals will take care of that increase alone. Where is all this additional money coming from? There’s going to have to be a few decent depth UFAs that are going to be left at the Altar.

Calgary's cap situation is looking pretty well compared to the deals that are getting tossed around.

Matt Duchene's eyes also lit up at the thought of an 8 figure deal now.

Like I said before...Welcome to the new NHL.

Young guys are getting smarter. Sign a contract for how you will be playing two years from now. Not when you are a 22 year old kid.

These guys are signing contracts during their prime playing time. No more Nathan MacKinnon and Pasta contracts where you take a deal for what you produced last year. Then in one years time the contract is a steal. It's basically if you want me long term pay me for what I will be worth long term if not just sign one year deals and bet on yourself as a player.

Honestly, GMBT should avoid free agency every year. The one aspect of his job that he's not so good at.

The two teams that just made the finals don't have a single player making over $7.5M against the cap. Signing players, especially ones that aren't the absolute best at their position to these huge, double digit, max term contracts seems like a bad way to build a winning team.

He was worth a 5th rounder.

So who made the worst deal?

Winnipeg giving up their first round pick for Hayes or Flyers giving up a 5th Rounder back to the Jets and signing him for 7 years at 7.1 AAV?
