I figured before watching the Deadwood movie I should watch the series again since it's been over a decade. Only 1.5 episodes in but so far it's better the 2nd time around.
My wife and I stumbled on this gem of a show when we were vacationing in the UK last week. Fleabag is part misanthropic humor and part deep drama. Lots of great performances/dialogue/characters etc. We're nearly finished with season 1 and it's quite good. There's 2 seasons with plans for a 3rd. Really funny and sometimes dark. The only problem is it's on Amazon Prime.
Just so we're clear, this is the official trailer, but it hardly represents the show in any meaningful way. They basically can't air the good stuff in a trailer because it's too risque.
Just watch it if you have access. You can thank me later.

Yeah, no thanks.
Yeah I don’t think that is a fair characterization of the Wire. It’s a show that commands your attention, you can’t play on your phone and hope to appreciate it. If you can handle that, it’s fantastic.

Hey, speaking of series on Prime, I'm about 3 episodes into Homecoming, and really enjoying it, and I say that as someone who generally strongly dislikes Julia Roberts. The cinematography has a real Hitchcockian vibe to it. The slow-build tension in it is really strong.

I don't think that's a fair assumption of my media consumption habits. Maybe it's just excruciatingly slow paced with very little payoff. I made it through 2.5 seasons and called it quits. I didn't care for the story or any of the characters. I don't even remember the plot at that point.
Not all shows are for all people.

Yeah not all shows for all people. You're in the minority on The Wire though, almost any top 10 tv show of all time type list has The Wire on it. Best show of all time imo.

I am certainly representing that Family Guy meme: Breaking Bad and The Wire are the best two shows ever made by a long shot.
No show has ever provided social commentary on the scale of the Wire. And it’s not close. Plot, characterization, cinematography - they were well done too - but it’s the social commentary that makes the Wire a masterpiece.

I remember trying and giving up watching it once. I remember being 4x3 SD was a turn off at the time. But, the second time I tried, I was pretty hooked by about the 3rd or 4th episode and flew through the rest of the seasons. The mid seasons are very fast paced and engaging, I thought.
This second season of Big Little Lies is better than expected so far. Meryl Streep has been a great addition.
