I think it's more than that. Silver wants to win favour with players to have a voice on social situations. This would throw it down the drain if he didn't act on it. Especially if LeBron spoke out about it. We know he's the real commish.

The fine isn’t for a fan who pushed a player.

The fine is for an owner of a team pushing a player on the other team during a game. That’s not something you can have owners do, and it has to be punished severely. It’s not about how hard the push was.

Hmm, I doubt it. I never heard of an owner behaving like that. Total bush league, he deserved the fine and it’s a drop in the bucket for this man.

Fine and punishment well-deserved. If you are an executive and have ownership in a professional sports team, act like a professional. Word is he was repeatedly telling Lowry to go f himself. So classy.
The NBA would not want the optics of an old, rich, white owner pushing one of the opposition players and being disrespectful.
So much credit to Lowry for handling it like a professional. If I am a player in an emotional game and a fan puts his hands on me, I would probably lose it.
And, though I hate to say this, full credit to Curry and Draymond Green in interviews for praising Lowry for how he handled it and that it should not have happened.

Pretty good run down (although it clearly was not subject to a deep proof-read) of the options for discipline the team and league have moving forward from SI.

Quote:
I don’t expect the NBA to attempt to terminate Stevens’s ownership in the Warriors—which would rescind his ownership interest in an NBA franchise—but there is a process by which that could occur.

The procedure is outlined under Article 14 of the constitution. The procedure would involve a hearing presided over by the chairman of the Board of Governors, which consists of owners with controlling interests in NBA teams. The chairman is Larry Tanenbaum, who owns part of the Toronto Raptors. The hearing would be similar to an arbitration, which itself is similar to a trial but much less formal and without a judge or a jury.

Here, league attorneys would present a case against Stevens for violating the NBA constitution. He would then have an opportunity to present his defense. Tanenbaum would facilitate the hearing. The de facto jury would be NBA owners, three-quarters of whom would need to vote to oust Stevens.

It is also possible that the Warriors could remove Stevens and avoid having one its owners the subject of an NBA disciplinary hearing. According to Dylan Byers of NBC News, “multiple sources close to the Golden State Warriors” tell him that Stevens will “likely be forced to sell his shares before the start of next season.” It is possible that contracts to purchase equity in the Warriors contain language that empower the team to require an investor to sell if the investor engages in conduct that breaches a “morals clause.” Such a clause would contemplate conduct that brings disrepute on the owner or the organization.

Have to think they looked at the guy's net worth and figured anything less would seem like a slap on the wrist.

I was just kidding (somewhat) with the LeBron comment, but it's not a good look to have an owner do that to a player. It's one thing to heckle and troll like Drake, but it's another thing to physically interfere unprovoked. In addition, it was the vitriol with which he acted which they needed to come down hard. Silver does want a good relationship with his players though, so that's definitely part of it. I'm sure a guy like this is an easy one to make an example of because the league doesn't need him.

Lowry weighs 196 lbs, and didn't touch Stevens, much less elbow him in the temple, so surely he can't be talking about what happened in Game 3.

No kidding. Lowry didn't even land on or touch the guy. There was no justification for this idiots reaction.

Just wondering, did Mark Cuban ever do anything this idiotic in his hay days? I know he has been fined many times by the league.

No. Almost all of Cuban's fines involve criticizing the referees. His biggest by far was for going on a podcast and talking about how he advocated tanking in a meeting with his players.

I think my favourite Cuban fine was the time the refs missed a clear goaltend so he ordered his staff to put it the play up on the scoreboard screen and just leave it there.

Kevon Looney is back for Golden State tonight. Surprising, thought he was out for the series.

Cuban as an owner is pretty awesome. He just cares about his own team and it shows. He criticizes anyone who comes in the way of his team winning. I didn't like when he underhandedly signed Tyson Chandler (IIRC) when he essentially signed with the Raps in his prime, and I don't like his well documented dining of refs before games, but he does push for his team to win.

Or just make him breathe hard.

Was that the same Canadian anthem they did last game? I missed it last time. That was atrocious. Who books that? For a regular season game maybe... but even then probably not. Yikes.

What's even the point of all these celebrities for these anthems? Just promotion? All they do is make it about themselves, and don't sing it like everyone else does.

I'll always hate how they American Idolize these.
