I actually talked to my dentist about this after hamonic broke his jaw earlier this season.
He said for hamonic to come back and play in that game the dentist who would've seen him down in the dental office in the arena would make a determination on whether the player could continue to play or not based on their examination. That there are some pretty gruesome degrees to a broken jaw diagnosis.
He said a jaw can break in a variety of ways, vertically, horizontally, right below the teeth or sometimes up near the ear or behind the molars. He said one of the worst places to break your jaw is towards your chin because of the potential for nerve damage and the difficulty of immobilization.
I'd suggest Chara's jaw is badly broken, in the front of his mouth, and that there is probably some risk he could make the injury much worse should he be the recipient of contact.
I think last game he was on the bench because he insisted on it, but that the training staff informed the coaching staff between periods that Chara could not play due to the severity of his injury, but perhaps a second opinion or the players insistence is why he's in the game today; ie. he's been informed of the risks but is willing to take them.

Agreed.
Also ,very fast with good execution.
Kind of weird how some gave up on the series after 3 games.

lol, wow, no kidding.
in light of that context, what an absolutely idiotic penalty by marchand.
Bruins had a tremendous scoring chance and Marchand makes a selfish play.
Rask has bailed Marchand out big time on this PK.

I actually broke my jaw once so anecdotally I was told similar things by the specialist I saw. Mine broke up in the hinge by my ear, so I didn’t need wiring to stabilize anything. Told me it was the best place the break it, if I had to at all.
But yeah, puck in the front. That’s a much worse spot. Probably wired up. I wouldn’t have played how I was, Chara is an animal.

when my dentist asked about the difficulty to immobilize he said the front breaks were often the most painful because depending on swelling or nerve damage, it's difficult for them to imobilize the break sufficiently to prevent small shocks from causing pretty serious pain.
I think it really, really sucks to be Chara right now.

I was so pumped he was playing (just cause it’s crazy, cheering for the blues). But now I’m just uncomfortable watching him.

Say what you will about Don Cherry but his unqualified support for and pride in the Canadian Armed Forces past and present is always moving.

Krejci with a great example on how to help his team when he isnt scoring.
Could be a series saving moment.

Not sure why this was even reviewed for so long, you can't push the goalie into his own net to score.

Whistle was blown long before the puck and goalie was pushed over the line. We'll still hear about it from a few Bruins fans.

the league was reviewing the rule book to see if it was possible for the Bruins to be allowed to do that.
Colin Campbell couldn't be reached in time.
