I think Brodie getting demoted to the third pairing at times is already writing on the wall. He should be moved to a team that needs a top 4 D.

Love it. I noticed that Brodie got “demoted” a lot particularly when the coach dressed Andersson and Prout. (You know, when they preferred someone who can skate well on all pairings.)

I thought the coaches managed the D well. Gave some younger guys some looks as well.

What about in the middle of games, like game 3 (?) vs Colordao?

BT sucks at FAs but by now you’d expect people to have faith in his trades. If Brodie is dealt, I won’t be surprised to see the incoming player be a clutch star for this team next year.

Should we get a poll going?

Not knowing what the return on either player will be, who would you prefer be dealt?

Brodie or Hamonic?

Tough to say. I wouldn’t be able to answer because they are both good D men, and it totally depends on the return. That makes a huge difference to me

Of course the return makes a difference..but no one knows what that will be in either case.

So I guess it could be re-worded to...who can the Flames easily afford to lose?

I can’t believe anyone would pick Hamonic over Brodie for being traded. One has heart and grit while the other is an overrated giveaway machine.

One is an elite skater, one has the mobility of a zamboni.

They each have their pros and cons.

Really don't think either of those extremes are true. Brodie moves very well, probably not elite however. Hamonic gets up and down the ice quite well, never thought his mobility was an issue at all.

Yeah I have never thought of Hamonic as slow.

First time I have ever heard that actually.

In regards to that, even if true, the team has options internal replacement for one of them ...the other one there is nothing even close in the system.

I'm ok with trading whichever one nets the best return and extending the other.

Can afford to lose the better skater but can’t afford to lose the heart and grit.

I think Hamonic will almost certainly garner a better return, so I’d rather trade him. Both are of equal value to me, and if I’m wrong about the return, happy to trade Brodie instead.

Hamonic scared me in the playoffs, I don't think his abilities will age well, while Brodie's style and skating lend themselves well to a mid 30s top4 dman. Unfortunately he's looked average at best the last 3 years and, well, terrible at worst. Hamonic is much steadier, less highs and lows and more reliable. His ceiling is lower but his floor is higher. It's a tough call, I don't envy BT. The answer at the end of the day might be to trade both.

What about trading both and signing a guy like Tyler Myers in UFA? I know he never lived up to his potential, but I feel like all 4 guys are pretty close right now. Myers skates well for a big man but his hockey IQ isn't the greatest. I think he would look great next the Gio though (anyone would be elevated). I wonder what he will command? I would offer him 5 x5.5m. I would feel uncomfortable going higher but really, is the following D corps worse than the one that lost in 5 to Colorado?

Giordano-Myers
Hanifin-Andersson
Valimaki-Kylington
Stone (Or trade him if possible and get a cheaper #7)

I get a sense it's going to be Brodie for sure. Pretty sure he's been in Peters' doghouse at times.

Brodie to X for a pick 2/3 round is my guess. Hamonic to Winnipeg for ?. And Johnny will be discreetly dangled for a knock your socks off pick plus (To Jersey or Philly). Frolik stays possibly till the season trade deadline. Thats my unscientific best guess for this year. Oh and if Chuckie is looking for 10 Mill he’s gone.

Hamonic is still good for a couple more years with his style of play, and Andersson/Valimaki/Kylington are not that type of player. With that said, I think moving Brodie makes more sense at this point, and Tre can spend a bit of time to find a good, hard-hitting blueliner that emulates Hamonic's game.
