I've been around ranches, and certainly horses like to run sometimes, especially younger horses.

They definitely prefer not having a rider though. They tolerate it, but I would not say they love it.

A lot of times there is suspensions and fines handed down to the jock for interference if it is not enough to take the horse down. Looking at the race results, there was a DQ at Century Mile (Leduc) in the 2nd, I believe, for something similar in the stretch (impeding). If what happened at the Derby happened at a $3k claimer at Turf Paradise on a Friday, he gets taken down within 5 minutes. Rules are rules.



Jaywalk got DQ'd in the Oaks on Friday for clipping heels with Positive Spirit at the start of the race and causing her to go down. Jaywalk eventually finished 6th but got DQ'd.

Way more often than not, inquiries lead to no changes in the order of finish.

Nothing. The horse is already DQ'd once the Ryder is off.

That’s not what I was asking. I was asking what if the rider-less horse interfered with another horse and caused it to lose or affected the outcome in a significant way? I’m not concerned about its disqualification.
