Looooooooooooooch

This season has ruined all my motivation to rewatch the entire show or watch any long behind the scenes footage. D&D's explanations of why they did what they did really pisses me off in Season 8.
"We did it because the fans liked that character"
"We made those two sleep with each other because the fans expected it"
"We made those two fight each other because the fans would like it as well as another big fight between two characters"
#### off what the fans want, stay true to the characters!

Seems awfully short sighted to me. These two guys were going to be known for creating one of the greatest TV series of all time, but now they're the ones who intentionally rushed the ending and turned the series into a mess because they wanted out
|
The episodes this season are now about 1:20 long. 6 episodes = 480 minutes
They used to be about 60 minutes. 8 episodes = 480 minutes.
They've been splitting the same amount of screen time into fewer episodes, because the central cast (lead by the Breaker of Chains who else ) collectively negotiated a really high per episode salary ($500.000 per actor per episode).
Cutting the same amount of footage into fewer longer episodes saves HBO something in the ballpark of an 8 digit number.

Oh yeah, you're right.
Still, it's more like 8 episodes than 6.

Judging from a lot of reactions, what they've been doing isn't really what the fans want.
Of course a lot of fans are basically happy with what ever they get (and this isn't unreasonable, it's not like there's a lot of alternatives for what the GoT is), and many are so invested they would have been on board with basically anything. EDIT: And yes, many still actually like it
However, I can't think of another situation like this, where a popular series is wrapping up it's last episodes and a significant portion of the fanbase are loudly complaining about the quality of the series. This seems to me like a very unusual situation.
It makes for kind of an interesting comparison to Infinity War and especially Endgame, a final to something equally long, massive and popular that basically everybody seem to be happy or at least okay with.

The first two episodes were under an hour each, so there's only 4 with the extended run time. Plus as noted in that article HBO wanted to keep throwing money at this show, they would have preferred to have 7 or even 8+ seasons with 10 episodes each, but the writers insisted on this truncated format

D&D want to go off and ruin Star Wars, they insisted on the shortened season.

Star Wars is already ruined. I'll finally pay money again to watch Star Wars if D&D do it.

He is but in a roundabout way. It’s like a double negative. Cancels each other out.
Star Wars is ruined. D&D ruin everything they adapt, especially beloved stories and characters.
But when we combine those two things we get Citizen Kane in space.

The only thing that really bothers me about the last episode is Euron deciding out of the blue to challenge Jamie to a fight. It seemed really forced and didn’t have much of a lead up. I know they didn’t like each other but I wasn’t sold on the premise that either one wanted to fight to the death with the other.
I also would have liked to see Cersei squirm a little more and go full on panic mode. Her death wasn’t satisfying enough for me.

I was really hoping that Cersei would have some kind of card up her sleeve to play when it looked like she lost.
Like a giant wildfire trap or something. A desperate attempt to take out Dany.
But looks like she was super confident that the scorpions would have taken out Drogon

Sadly I was expecting the last scene for Cersei to be her public beheading from her perspective in front of a jeering crowd.
In my mind I had her looking through her eyes at the crowd. Then a tumbling motion, then it stops and theres a squishing sound and she forgets how to spell dog as a spike is driven into her brain and she's raised above the crowd.

Still have a few to go, but a buddy completely spoiled me on Daeny's and the death of Cersei and Jamie and all the other stuff from this year.
I don't know what happened in season 7.
It was tough to impossible to avoid spoilers. I went over to my cousin for Dinner when I was in season 5 and I told him that I was a fan of the show and all of this stuff came out and I was like, let me finish, I'm only in season 5.
I've finished 6, I decided to take a few days off of binge watching with the plan to start season 7 this weekend.

Don't worry, I'm plotting an elaborate revenge where I go to see the Star Wars film earlier then him, film it on my phone and set up a projector and shine it through his bedroom window late one night , and then replace the ending with the Sopranos ending.

Had an idea!

Why couldn't they have other writers take over each season? I don't get why there are just two. Surely some other people can keep the overall theme of the show going.
But pretty concerning overall.
Same issue with the Middle Earth series coming to Amazon. How do we know that have 5 seasons the writers won't get bored and want to do something else?
Financially it is a big commitment for the studios. Almost gotta think there is something in the contract to avoid these issues.
Zero excuse, ZERO, for not going 4 more episodes.

I'm going to assume that the pressure to wrap up quickly was coming from the cast just as much, if not more than the showrunners. many of them are young and in their physical primes, and the effort they have to put into filming things like battle scenes (e.g. 55 days for just the Long Night) probably has made most of them eager to do something else. I bet if HBO announced that they were going 10 seasons, at least a few of them would have pulled a Constance Wu.
