Since you went that far back in the thread to quote me maybe read a little further ahead to see my reply to people who said basically the same thing |

Fair enough, wouldn't blame him at all for setting himself up financially as you say, hockey is a short career and anything can happen. But it can depend on the player as well, some players seem happy to take a pay cut to play on teams that have a chance at winning.

I understand your side but I suspect Hathaway is here next season based mostly on the grit that he brings, I just hope he doesn't price himself out as you say

its a balancing act i think... ice time is great, but if your surrounding cast is crappy too, you aren't going to look particularly good either...
tobias rieder was being chased by calgary too iirc, but decided that Edmonton was the better option due to his buddy Draistl and getting a chance to play with McDavid would bump his numbers for a bigger payday after the year.

didn't work out that way, even though the depth chart was wide open.

So what I'm getting out of this is that 'cost controlled' isn't actually a defined term in the NHL? Not being snarky, I thought it actually had parameters but it looks like it was just something fans and media started using to describe players that have term left at a good value cap hit?

Panarin?
Too bad we were runner ups for him in 2015:

Sounds like the Flames — who heavily pursued him — were closest, but with so many small, talented forwards already in position (Sam Bennett, Johnny Gaudreau, Markus Granlund, Jiri Hudler), Panarin thought that might be too many. | |

Okay, but you should really provide an extensive legend as that could also mean Oilers.

Looks like Monday, May 27th, if anyone is too lazy to look at the calendar, (like I was until I had to look at it for a different reason, and multi-tasked).

He was on the SN page for the rosters but he's not on the IIHF page. Perhaps he was a late cut.

Might have been a late cut to make room for a recently eliminated Swedish player
