Neal's not going anywhere this offseason. He will have 1 more season to try and rebound and if he doesn't will probably get bought out next summer.

Nygard in for Mangiapane
Mangiapane in for Bennett
Bennett in for Frolik
Dube in for Jankowski
Jankowski and Frolik traded for a second and third.
Suddenly we are 146x speedier.
Sweet.

I like Janko and don't want to move him. Switch Hathaway instead.

That's pretty bad value for Jankowski. If I was dealing him I might look for a slightly older and grittier winger with similar, if maybe a little less, production. Someone of Andrew Shaw's ilk, although not Shaw himself.

I was a big Jankowski guy before the last half of the season. He got softer and slower as time went on, and it continued into the playoffs. We wanted a 6'3 Backlund and instead got a Colbourne.

But he plays so slow and weak for his body type. I was high on Jankowski coming into the season, but he's really showing to be a replaceable player at this point.
His size gives him reach which is pretty much the only thing he uses his size for and the only thing keeping him in the NHL.

Hes a terribly frustrating player to watch 5 v 5 . Has plenty of tools but seemingly doesnt know how to (or worse, isnt willing to) use them. He has a great reach but cant play physical at all, and gets exposed when someone physical goes against him.

Good point, but could go the other way too.
Coming to Calgary puts you on once of the highest scoring teams, with better linemates and that could in fact produce higher numbers for his year.

If Tre can get Hathaway signed between 1-2 Mil I personally hope we keep him on the roster. Best case we bolster the roster and he's a 13th forward going into next season that can give the team a spark and already has established chemistry with Ryan and Mangiapane.
But I also have no read on how Tre is gonna re-work this roster after that playoff bounce.. But the competitiveness he brings is something we need more of not less, guess it comes down to what he asks for on the contract, Tre was the guy who brought Hathaway here after seeing him in Arizona though so that might help negotiations too IMO.

I'm going to feel sad, if or when the day Frolic leaves our team.

Hathaway probably played well enough to price himself out of Calgary.
He may never get a chance to set himself up financially again, though his Ivy League education should help him in the future as well.
I suspect he chases the money and who can blame him?

Frolic?
Also, if he leaves? It was well documented he and his agent want out and he has 1 year left under contract.

Hope so. Him and Ryan were the energy line in the last month if the season, and also turned the tide of game 1 in the playoffs.Always got an honest effort from him, and unless he gets Sandy McCarthy syndrome and thinks he should have an expanded scoring responsibility, those are the types of players a 4th line needs.
If you can still sell high on Jankowski, go for it. Doesn't use his size or his skill 5 on 5. So tentative. Confidence issues? Whatever, he needs to produce points and ideally bump Backlund to 3rd line C sooner than later as Backlund climbs up in age. I just don't see that happening with his game, where he just gets lost, at worst, blends in, at best, 5 on 5.

True.
I would love to see him back, but this is probably going to be his biggest opportunity in his career to maximize his earnings. From a business perspective, he would be wise to become a free agent.
The team has bigger fish to fry and I don't think they are going to want to pay what Hathaway will get offered by other teams. He seems like a good "culture" kind of player which a few teams will pay a premium for even if his overall skill level is that of a fourth line player. Kind of like when we paid a premium to get Deryk Engelland.
