Yah my thoughts. I'll give it another show or 2. It was alright, nothing to write home about, but its been only 1 episode.

One complaint I did have was the 1/2 hour leading up to the show. We were watching the Rick Mercer Report (great show, if you haven't caught it try to watch a couple of episodes) and they were hyping it up like crazy. Which would be ok, but something related to it - a little blurb on the bottom of the screen, an ad, a shot of the show, etc etc - seemed to be on every 2 minutes. A lot of what they showed then made some of the actual show repititive.

But yup, a so-so at the momment, nothing special, but not horrible. Will have to watch another couple of shows before passing off my judgement.

I thought it funny and clever in the way of Corner Gas. Now I've seen more Corner Gas obviously, and I love Corner Gas, which is typical Canadian humour... mocking stereotypes. One thing was that while Corner Gas had that fantastic line in it's opening episode, (I coulda swore there were mountains jutting up all purple and majestic...) this one didn't have one particular line that struck me. I'll give it a few more episodes. They were just setting up the premise in this one.

Ask the creator of the show a question today at Globe & Mail.com:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...alComment/home

The premise of the show is brilliant obviously, if they do it right . . . . too many Toronto jokes though in the opener and the Imam folded like a cheap tent between staying and going . . . geez, give that plot line some writing.

Before I think?

It came on at 8.30 I think out in the Maritimes.

I think its usual slot is Wed's or something though?

I watched about five minutes and found it completely unfunny (I don't like Corner Gas, either, though). But even if I never watch it again, I do hope that it is successful and gets CBC some accolades, as they should be rewarded for trying something different and a bit risky.

I caught it in a disjointed way as I was helping my kids with homework. One line that got me - not sure if it was the actual episode or a preview for next week's show:

Dad to midriff-baring daughter: "Omigod, you look like a Protestant."
Daughter: "Don't you mean prostitute?"
Dad: "No, I mean Protestant!"

I actually had a belly laugh over this exchange, a pretty rare thing for me. Looks like it's going to be a good show and I'll give it a chance.

That line was not in the first episode unfortunately. That's why I'm saying it didn't start out with a 'bang' like Corner Gas. I was hooked with the first line in Corner Gas.

I didn't get a chance to see this last night.
Corner Gas hooked me with "The Taxman" episode (#2).

One of the people asking questions accused the creator of using the show to soften Canadians up for an Al Qaeda attack. Unbelievable.

What

Some people, I tell you....anyways, here is what is posted....

Fred Smuts from St Johns Canada writes: How much are you paid by Al Qaida to produce your show to try to soften up the Canadian public for an attack? The idea is to reduce our suspicion of these lovely humourous Moslems so thay can do their worst. Does the young Ontario man who wanted to behead the Prime Minister have a part in the show? Next time a Moslem buys a ton of nitrogen fertilizer, it's supposed to be a big joke. Right?

Zarqa Nawaz: I don't think Osama is going to be very happy with this show, because I think he'd rather Muslims be fearful of non-Muslims. So, unfortunately, I don't think we'll be getting any funds from his organization.

Yeah thats real funny. If you took out the word Protestant and inserted any other minority in Canada. There would be an uproar to have the racist show taken off the air. But because it pokes fun at the majority, were supposed to find it cute.

Well it pokes more fun at Muslims, which is a minority... and it's made by a Muslim, so....

Me thinks it's supposed to make fun of, and break down stereotypes.

Although HOZ and a couple of others in the thread didn't partake (HOZ for political and practical reasons), two million people did partake in the premiere. Pretty hefty stuff for a CBC comedy.

I just watched the repeat that was on tonight.

Pretty funny show. I don't really like Corner Gas, but I see how they are similar. This shows seems pretty good. Everyone should check it out if they have a chance.
