icon57 David Rittich contract negotiations

Thought this warranted its own thread.

So where do the Flames go with Big Save Dave? Is he a starter? A tandem guy? A backup?

I think he has the potential to be a number one in the NHL, but I wonder if he's elite level.

What's a ballpark guess on a new contract? Three years at $2.5 million? He'll be 27 in August.

Discuss.

Don't think Rittich has all that much leverage TBH. He's 27 and yet to establish himself as a starter. He's a good backup right now, and will make the money of a backup. Solid raise from the $800k he's making right now for sure though.

If you asked me mid-year I would have been happy with 3yr10M for 3.33 per

Tune has changed after a avg 2nd half

Taking into consideration other comparable:

Koskinen (stupid contract) 4.5x3
DeSmith 1.25x3
Demko 1.05x2
Copley 1.1x3
Sparks 750k 1yr
Della 1.0x3

I see Rittich better than all the above and feel that should warrant a premium. Also likely will be the only starter out of the bunch with the exception of Koskinen. I think term should be 2-4 years and AAV should fall between 1.75-2.5M

That said 3yr x 2.25M seems fair

Arty "The Party" Zagidulin will be given the opportunity to win the backup spot, along with quite likely Gillies' last shot at the NHL. However, I expect a inexpensive free agent option brought on board.

I don't see Smith back.

But it was announced that he was injured in the second half, remember? That gave me great hope, because he looked like a legitimate starter pre injury.

Anyway you slice it, it’s not gonna give Rittich leverage in the negotiation. He needed to carry the team on his back and throughout the playoffs to warrant anything more than 2.5 per

Oh absolutely, think it's going to get us a starter at a back-up/tandem price. I was just stating in case you didn't know as I thought your post insinuated he had fallen off randomly, which would be very concerning.

I love that the Oilers signed Koskinen to that awful contract but I also hate that agents will be using that in their negotiations.

I'd guess 3 years between 1.5m and 2.5m

BSD is likely a legit starter. Due to his injury he couldn't prove that though so he won't get a large sum of money when compared to other legit and proven starters.

It's in Rittich's best interest to ask for 1 or 2 years and hope he can stay healthy and prove he's a true #1 to hit the pay load.

Tandem guy with starter potential. 3x$2.5M seems reasonable. Great contract if he takes the next step but won't hurt you if he ends up as the backup.

1 year at 1 mil plus a bonus for games played. Unfortunately, "Big Save Dave" has yet to prove that he is "Big Game Dave."

No such thing as a bonus for games played.

So basically league minimum for a guy who went 27-9-5?

If he doesn’t get 3 million, his agent is not doing his job
