Need an upgrade down the middle. Thats why I was surprised they put Lindholm on the wing. But then he clicked with the top line and the team won 50 games.

Yeah, I don't think Lindholm moving to center makes Monahan expendable. Lindholm hasn't played much centre in the NHL and he isn't a huge upgrade on Monahan. I think if they go that route, we try and get two new RWs or move Bennett to RW and acquire another RW.

I think that is overly optimistic.

That is more on point, IMO. $1.5M as the max, with $1.25M as a target and probably optimal for all.

I admit I didn’t realize Hathaway was UFA, thought he was RFA. Still hope Flames show some discipline here and not be afraid to take a hard line with bottom of the roster player.
One of the challenges is the very few forwards on ELC’s who could be competing for a spot next year. Still a 27 year old who averaged 10:32 minutes of ice time a game is close to replacement level. I like Hathaway a lot but I’m not putting much salary into my 12th forward. $950K on 1 year deal feels good to me.

Hathaway is coming off an 11-goal season and he's entering his prime. I think he'll be able to convince a team that's weak up front that he can be a third-line winery. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3-year, $1.75 million AAV deal in UFA for a guy who PKs, can score 11 goals, and who hits.

I agree. A decent 4th liner who scores 11 goals and can kill penalties will get a much better offer than a 1-year $950,000 contract.
Hopefully you have a player coming up that you can replace that kind of guy cheaply.
But many teams don't and they'll need to pay UFA prices or have a substandard replacement.
The Flames may be one of those teams.

Based on what Burke is saying moving the team to the US should solve all the issues.

Third and fourth line guys are breweries, top six are wineries.
It will take a good agent to convince them he is a third line winery

I would be interested in trying to swing a Reaves trade for Hathaway. Vegas needs cap relief and it’s no secret There was mutual interest in the summer.

Hathaway has 16 goals in 175 NHL games. You are absolutely right that he scored 11 goals last year but paying a guy based on his best season is a mistake this organization has made before.

Still going with Monahan being moved at the draft or this summer. They move him for a C or RW.

LOL... I have no idea how my phone changed "calibre" to "winery" but I'll take a good white.

Everyone has talked about Brodie to Toronto which is a no brainer.
Hamonic to wpg also makes a lot of logical sense. It's probably a place he'd be happy to play long term and can replace Tyler Myers. And let's be honest - trouba is almost gone too. The jets have a lot of interesting pieces up front the flames could be interested in too. And if Myers goes and wpg trades trouba in the off season...then they might be interested in both Brodie and Hamonic - and I bet that could be the start of a blockbuster trade.

Taylor Hall for James Neal + Oliver Kylington + Conditional 2020 2nd that becomes a 2020 1st if Hall re-signs in Calgary.

Kylington + Neal is likely worth less than zero, that's the negative value attributable to Neal.
It would more likely be Hall for Valimaki, a 1st and another decent prospect.
They won't need to take back negative cap hit to move Hall, teams would line up for him. Especially for a full season of him.

Yeah, might be a slight concern...

but league sources suggest some clubs would be willing to give him a mulligan, though would pay a high price to acquire him.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
^ I believe that was meant to say wouldn't pay a high price
(and I'm sure the Flames wouldn't care what other teams paid to get him. Paying at all would be a win)
