You basically are saying we lost because of Monahan. Every member of the Flames 70+ point club was brutal in the playoffs.

Maybe it is time for a new narrative? Peters moves on from the Hurricanes and the team is poised for the conference finals when he couldn’t get his team ready and they got spanked by a team 17pts lower in the standings than them?

Lots of blame to go around for this team failing. The Flames haven’t had a 82 point center in over 2 decades and it has been a steady 2 weeks of many people trying to run him out of town.

well, maybe not every member... Bennett and Smith were really good and i think Valimaki/Andersson were pretty decent too.

the disappointment comes from having high expectations of your core players, the guys that are getting paid the most money... unfortunately, Monny, Gaudreau and Gio carry that weight of those expectations...

i agree that singling out Monny is pretty unfair... Almost everyone didn't perform to the level people expected them to, including the coaches.

Those players did not register 70+ points.

He was referring to Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, and Giordano.

Perhaps the Canes are truly destiny's child and will prevent an abortion (the Sharks this time around) winning the SC yet again...

I hope this thing that every damn thread turns to how the Flames top line failed to execute in the playoffs keeps going for ever. It really makes CP a fantastic place to enjoy. Yay!

Good on the Canes but what drives me nuts is all the fair weather fans that pack the building now but were nowhere to be seen during the regular season.

I just can't believe the Hurricanes are likely going to be in the conference finals while the Lightning, Leafs, Penguins, Capitals, and maybe Bruins are all on the outside. I feel like the 2019 NHL playoffs are will one day make a great Twilight Zone episode.

Ffs, it’s posts like these that derail the entire thread

There’s a dozen other Flames criticism type threads out there. Go post your thoughts in one of them

That's interesting...

Still available for offense and face-offs.

Monahan on the walls might actually force him to use his frame to his advantage.

See, I actually think Monahan is a better option than Lindholm, but I think you run into the issue for the team over all with this change. Lindholm is a great complimentary player, he has tons of skill and can keep up with talented players and not hinder them, but he isn't going to drive a line.

I could be wrong about Lindholm, as I never ever saw him having the season he just had. That could be the answer to the crux of my point, which was that you needed Gaudreau or a player of Gaudreau's skill level at center.

It would take an epic comeback for the Islanders at this point. I suspect they'll find a way to win tonight, but the 'Canes will be moving on to the second round. Just not enough offense for the Islanders and the Hurricanes just keep scoring big goals.
Since people were talking about the all or nothing phenomenon for the Hurricanes, I thought I'd look up the Islanders success in the playoffs. Since their dynasty era teams, they've made it past the second round just once. They haven't done so since 1993.

People bitch and moan about the Flames' lack of playoff success, but a lot of teams are in the same boat. Outside of the modern dynasties like the Red Wings, Penguins, Blackhawks etc. most teams haven't had a lot of sustained playoff success.

Man, I still remember them upsetting the Pens in 93. That team was destined for a 3-peat. Huge upset. Probably the only reason the Habs won that year.

I'm fully on board with the Canes at this point. But I wish they'd stop using the black uniforms. The red ones are just better.
