Spoilered for video title.
This reaction video is awesome. Seeing the swing of emotions upon their initial viewing really drives home how well that scene was done. Total helplessness, followed by brief surprise/elation, but then quickly snuffled out with dread for Arya, then the huge relief with a bad-ass KO.

That video kinda summed up my whole problem with the last few seasons. The show has gone from great writing with a real world unpredictability to it, to straight fan service. I get why people clapped and cheered, but it's not the same show that hooked me so hard in the first 4 seasons

I started re-watching from ep 1 a couple weeks ago, and the difference in tone, pacing, and writing is shocking.

Except nobody was predicting what happened lol. So how has that changed? Wouldn't any one that was "good" or even living killing the night king be fan service then? Maybe sometimes a bit of fan service is inevitable.
I think the only outcome that would've satisfied you here was the night king winning, by your angle here.

The Night King winning would have been more consistent with the early episodes. But I’ll be honest, right til the end I thought the good guys were going to get wiped out. I did not see that coming with Arya.

You can only have so many red weddings, neds, oberyns and hodors before THAT script starts to get old and predictable, too. And GOT was building that reputation.
If you guys think were getting out of this season without another tragedy or betrayal then well.. "you haven't been paying attention."

Guys, I know it was filmed in Europe but it's still HBO, the good guys are going to win, there will also be an opening for the another series down the road.

I don't know how anyone could think the good guys weren't going to win given that there are still 3 episodes after this one.

I think the episode was purposely dark and chaotic so we had the same experience as the characters.

LOL, about half the people I talked to totally saw Arya killing the Night King, at least by the time Arya suddenly runs off like she's on a mission. Many even before the season began. It's a pretty obvious solution to the problem of "how do you kill a king who has an army we can't beat". You need an assassin, not another army, and there aren't that many "assassin" type characters in the series, really only Arya and Bronn.
They also basically turned the series into "Game of Women" last season, with power now mostly resting with women and most heroic moments and decisions made by wome (Which I'm not objecting against on a general basis, although I do feel they've been overdoing it a little.)
and just in general Arya has been shown to be much more on that "power level" where you sneak up to a king.
I mean, basically all major characters have either died in assassinations or betrayals of some sort, and there wasn't likely going to be a betrayal plot with the Night King, so an assassination it is. It was never going to happen in a "fair fight" of any kind
I'm mostly disappointed that the characters themselves didn't discuss this fairly obvious solution to their problem. And that Arya screamed while jumping, that was a really out of character moment. Silence would have been way cooler
All that criticism aside, I really enjoyed the episode though, despite the admittedly poor picture quality.
Oh, and I absolutely agree that the quality of the dialogue has absolutely plummeted, especially in the last two seasons. The series has essentially changed it's genre, going from political grim low fantasy into adventurous edgy high fantasy.
It's a shame because the series was originally just way better, but on the other hand... Well they kind of did that other thing already, for many seasons. While you could keep spinning new plots and twists, the quality would have gone down eventually anyway.
I actually kind of like this turn where they're now doing the other cool things you can do in fantasy in general, because this is really now the best there has ever been in high fantasy genre. The "backstory" of the previous seasons gives us interesting characters relations and a deep world, they have a solid cast and visual style, and there's really no one else who has the budget to do these kinds of massive fantasy battles, which I love watching, especially since they're not COMPLETE nonsense historically speaking.
I mean, really the only other decent fantasy battles ever filmed are in the LotR films. They're really an extremely rare treat still.

Yup, last time I screamed like that was when Flames clinched against the Kings with Johnny carrying the team on his back. Arya deserved a Yeah Baby for sure!

There's this much to go:
Season 8, Episode 4
Debut date: SUNDAY, MAY 5 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Estimated running time: 1:18
Season 8, Episode 5
Debut date: SUNDAY, MAY 12 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Estimated running time: 1:20
Season 8, Episode 6
Debut date: SUNDAY, MAY 19 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Estimated running time: 1:20
There seems to be enough time to tell more of the story. I can't for a minute think that this is just the end of whatever story they were trying to get across with the Night King and the Army of the Dead. I hope that by 10:30pm on May 19th we'll all be satisfied.

All I can think about today is the logistics of dealing with the tens of thousands of corpses in and around Winterfell. They'll probably freeze so disease wouldn't be a huge factor but damn, that's going to be a huge funeral pyre.

Game of Thrones is essentially delivering a movie quadrilogy this season in a six week span.
This is also the end of the story of Night King and the Army of the Dead.
