They definitely have space. But depending on a few factors, it could be gone with players still to sign.

Maybe they get the Russians on a discount, or maybe they pay the going rate of ~20 million.

There is most of it with 5-6 players to add.

If Luongo retires and they can't move Reimer, that has them paying 15 million for goalies when the D and bottom 6 needing upgrades.

They have options, but I wouldn't take on Reimer for Hoffman.

I'm pretty optimistic in what Tre can do for this team creating something out of perceptibly nothing in the offseason. Brodie, Frolik and Jankowski are all players that I believe hold more value than what many are giving them credit for.
I find it interesting that nobody really seems interested in moving hanifin. I like him, but I think killington could play in his spot. The return on hanifin would almost certainly get us a top 6 forward +.

Honestly the team could probably move hanifin and Brodie in separate trades and be just fine on the back end.

I have to disagree regarding Frolik and Janko.

Janko is 25 come next season and doesn't seem to be anything more than a depth piece. He has a decent contract though so that holds value. Frolik on the other hand, while being a good depth player, it's hard to argue he's worth the UFA money he got and many teams can look internally for those types of replacements.

Brodie has value I agree. Not sure it's a fit for Florida though, I think they need more a stay home type defenseman.

Their cap space is tight though if they get both Panarin and Bob like you said. So they could move Hoffman for picks only I would assume.

Too young, upside too high, we don’t know what we have in him yet. Former top 5 pick, just starting to scratch his potential. Trading him now would be like CAR trading Lindholm last year. Way too risky. Gio improved by leaps and bounds at an age older than Hanifin is. Hanifin has all the tools to be a long term top 4 guy.

We need LHD for when Gio retires. I’d be hesistant to move any of Valimaki, Hanifin or Kylington right now.

I agree keep them all:

Gio-Andersson
Valimaki-Hanifin
Kylington-Hamonic

I could be wrong but IMO Brodie will be moved this off season and I don't see Treliving trading two top 4 Dmen in the same off season.

I wonder if they take a serious run at Duchene though.

Cap space will likely be an issue wrt Duchene, depending on how much $$ we spend in goal and on Chucky. We’d need to move Neal to afford Duchene imho...and that’s unlikely.

I still think Duchene ends up in Montreal.

Maybe but Montreal needs a true #1 C, Duchene grew up a huge Habs fan, they have the cap, seems like a perfect fit.

I don’t think this is so far fetched. The high priced D really hasn’t yielded benefits for the Flames while other teams seem to find cheap veterans to fill a spot on the bottom pairing.

Although I think it’s unlikely Flames trade 2 of their top 6 defensemen, I could imagine scenarios where it works out.

Doesnt Grandlund play center? I cannot imagine them trading johansen and running with duchene, johanses and grandlund. Too expensive and not enough icetime. They can always trade turris but still.

killington is no where near close to Hannafin right now. The other issue i have with killington is his size. He seems to get overpowered but larger players. I see him as an offensive #5d.

I think ppl may be surprised on what hanifin could return. I get the whole top 5 pick with potential thing. That being said, thats why his value could be worth an elite top line player. Trading from our strength to another teams strength may net us what we need.

Dare to dream that Hanifin could return us just what the team needs.

I also think ppl forget that killington has changed his attitude. And from what i remember his attitude/approach to the pro game is what made him drop from a top 5 pick to 2nd rounder.

Risk it for the biscuit.

Hanifin was far and away the Flames leader in hits (87) among our D-men.

Giordano was a far second with 58

I couldn't believe these stats. A hit per game for our defensive hits leader?

I had to look up teams, and yeah, we're solidly last in hits per game in the NHL. Pittsburgh and Vegas are 1/2 and Tampa is 6. So it's not a "skilled team less hits" thing.

That's bad.

Tbh the only reason I know was because I was listening to 960 and they brought it up.

I was like "huh?" and had to double check so you're not the only one

I feel this fact is just horrible either way.

But I salute you on your knowledge

Also I salute you on your ability to still listen to 960 under these circumstances
