But in his first 20 playoff games he had 14 points; Mony has played 20 playoff games and has 13 points.
so it's entirely possible that Mony can pick up his production as he gets more playoff experience.

There are going to be more than a couple of teams who have had stagnant cores on long term deals revisit those core groups to get competitive again.
I'm thinking specifically of Anaheim, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Los Angeles.
There are some good assets there for teams looking to add that piece that puts them over the top to 'win now'.

Flames won't/can't take on an $8M cap hit.

Two centre contracts I find interesting are Derek stepan and Ryan getzlaf.
Both guys have actual salaries less than their cap hits in either one or both of their remaining years.
Getzlaf gets paid 6 million in his final year, meaning if Anaheim retained 2 million of his cap hit, they wouldn't actually have to pay any money out.
The same with stepan at about 1.5
Conceivably you move backlund and a pick for getzlaf with 2.25 retained and have essentially the same salary structure as you do with Backlund but with less term obligation and a significantly different look in your forward group.
I think it makes a lot of sense.

Unless if the deal is surrounding Neal and Zucker.. I am not really sure why the Flames are interested.
He is small, has only scored more than 50 points once in his career, and has a 5.5 million dollar contract for the next four seasons. What happens if he is a total bust as well and then we are stuck paying Neal and Zucker over 11 million each year for 4 years.

Well, 1 of those years are trading off Froliks 4.5M but yes, you're effectively saddling them Flames for 3 more years of Zucker @ 5.5M which means something else has to give (Brodie's 4.65 and more)
I agree though, if Zucker holds @ 50pts I think we're happy but if he regresses and we end up with Neal + Zucker for 11M we're fooked.
Could always buy Neal out the following year if he doesn't improve? IDK scary to imagine that's for sure.

I would be selling Dubas hard on a Jankowski for Kadri deal.
The Leafs will get a lot of cap space under this and they also get a 3rd line centre to replace Kadri, who also has some upside and can kill penalties.
Kadri centering a second line with Tkachuk and Bennett would be one of the most hated and effective line in the NHL. With second line ice time, Kadri is a 30 goal scorer. He's a good skater with good skill too and should complement Tkachuk and Bennett. I know many don't like him cause of his #######, but that's exactly why the Flames should be going after him.
Plus you push Backlund down to the third line and conserve him for shutdown assignments.
Maybe even expanding it a bit and include Brodie (so the Leafs can replace Gardiner but at a short term) and balance it out with some draft picks and prospects to the Flames.

Kadri is probably at his lowest value because of his stupidity in the POs, so if he's a target of yours despite that incident the time is now.
ETA: However, third line for "shutdown assignments" is difficult when the opponents' top line plays maybe 20+ minutes per game.

Still, Jankowski isn't really something the Leafs need is he?
Regardless I would imagine the Flames need to add to make that deal happen anyway.

Janko + Brodie for Kadri most likely would be enough.

What would Pittsburgh want for Malkin?
Likely 3 players including someone they could play at C on the 2nd line to replace Geno.
Backlund/Kylington/?? a starting point?

Re: The Leafs. They're after RHD and cap relief.
I don't see them taking on Brodie and his salary after they let Gardiner go.
If they want to move on from Kadri and not get something they need back for him it would be to clear his cap space for a run at what they do need. But they won't just give him away.

They need cap space, so in that sense he is something they need.
