This signing kind of offsets the likely scenario that 2013 7th round pick Rafikov won't come to NA.
Both Rafikov and Yelesin have similar stats playing for Lokomotiv. Rafikov is slightly better offensively than Yelesin but Yelesin greatly outhits Rafikov. Rafikov averaged 35 seconds less ice time per game and is roughly 8 months older.

Hoping we see this next year.
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Yelesin
Stone
Brodie traded
Kylington in the AHL
Fantenberg released (man, what a strange trade)
Prout released

The emergence of somebody like Andersson would have an impact on what we do with Brodie.
This is a low risk, medium reward signing. The Flames make these signings every off-season. To think this signing has anything to do with showing Brodie the door is asinine.

Agree with this except I keep fanta as 7d and get rid of stone and his contract.

I'm excited to see what this guy can bring. Solid shot, can throw some big hits, just entering his prime. Kind of reminds me of a right-handed Alexei Emelin, which would be great as a free asset.

If I was Fantenberg I would sign with a team with less defensive depth.

Funny I was thinking the exact opposite.

I very much doubt he gets re-signed.

Both Yelesin and Zagidulin were brought in to be fast-tracked into the NHL.
I doubt Yelesin sees any significant time in Stockton. Zagidulin perhaps sees a bit on the farm because a goaltender's development timeline is different (and adapt to the smaller NA rink surface).
Do we see players like Kylington and Gillies moved in the off season?

I think that BT will trade both Brodie and Stone for draft picks.

Kylington looked NHL ready already this season. It would be really stupid to send him back to the AHL for next season and he would likely ask to be moved if we did. Either play him or trade him.
Edit:
If Välimäki can play right I'd like to try:
Gio - Välimäki
Hanifin - Hamonic/Brodie
Kylington - Andersson
7:Fantenberg/Yelesin

You don't see how an Andersson-Hamonic-Yelesin right side would be in the running for slowest in the NHL?
Or maybe you don't see how a guy who averaged 17:30 in the KHL is not being brought in to make a guy who averaged 21:30 in the NHL and 22:30 in the NHL playoffs expendable?
Or maybe you don't see how a player Bill Peters cites as a "depth" defenseman is being brought in for, dare I say, depth?

I dont think Yelesin will be any more ready than Kylington for the NHL. I may be in the minority, but I hope the Flames dont trade Oliver. Too much time has been invested in him from a development stand point and he has progressed every year. He still has a high ceiling. Plus for the most part, he did great this year.

Brodie is as good as gone. Each one of these depth defensive signings are exactly that depth so that when he is eventually ushered out the door it’s not someone like Kanzig in the line up.

How awesome would it be to see all our young D mature into top four's...
Valimaki - Andersson
Kylington - Hamonic
Hanifin - Yelesin

Most likely both Zagidulin and Yelesin start the year in Stockton, but with a chance to work their way up.

You could be right, but often these Russians are giving up a lot of rubles to play in the AHL. Some have even bailed mid-season. Depends on what they've been promised and what their expectations are.
