Wild stage a 3rd period come back to salvage a tie against the Blues who we seem to have problems with. Wild go 3-3-1 in the 7 games in 7 nights stretch, and more importantly imerge from the hellish week relatively healthy.

I never thought I would look forward so much to having a few days off from CPHL games.

No game story today, in lieu of first quarter report which will be posted shortly.

Oilers win 8th game in last 10, take over the lead in the Martin Division

This just in, the Oilers are playing some good hockey these days. After struggling out of the gates and posting a 4-6-0-1 record, the Oilers have quietly rebounded with a 8-2-0-2 mark in the past 10 games to climb into a tie with the Avalanche atop the Martin division, and one point behind the Jackets for the top spot in the Howe conference. The latest result is an impressive 4-2 win over the veteran laden, but struggling Montreal Canadiens.

The Oilers continued their recent trend of fast starts as they opened the scoring 1:43 into the game when Adam Footes blast from the point was able to get behind a screened Martin Brodeur. The Oilers were able to extend the lead to 2 when Bobby Holik was able to corral a rebound and fire it top shelf to give the Oilers their second powerplay goal of the night. The Oilers looked extremely impressive on the heels of a flight from Miami the previous day as they outplayed the Habs holding a shot advantage of 16-7 after the first.

After Vyacheslav Kozlov got the Habs within one on a power play in the second the Oilers took the lead back when Matt Cooke scored his first goal as an Oiler to give the home team a 3-1 lead after two.

The Oilers took a 4-1 lead 2:21 into the third period when Jay McKee fired a shot past Brodouer to the short side for his 3rd of the season and 2nd in as many games. The Habs closed the scoring when Keith Primea combined with Sundin and McCabe to beat Thomas Vokun.

The Oilers new checking line of Holik, Matt Cooke, and newly aquire Marcus Nilson was the difference in this game posting 2 goals, 4 assists, and a combined +6 as a unit. Thomas Vokun also played a solid game for the Oilers turning away 21 of the 23 shots directed his way. The Oilers wrap up a stretch in which they played 9 games in 11 nights with 7 wins and 2 overtime losses. The team will now enjoy a couple days off before jumping back into action.

In minor league news the AHL road runners have strung together a string of victories to move back to the.500 mark. Alexander "Axe Slinger" Perezhogin scoring 3 more goals today giving him an AHL leading 16 on the season. Look for Perezhogin to be in the Oiler lineup next time they play the Kings.

DON'T PANIC YANIC!!!

PERREAULT CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

Boston (AP) - In another game won by the Bruin on special teams, Yanic Perrault continued his strong Power Play. With his almost leage leaading 6th Power Play goal, DON'T PANIC YANIC has proved to be a valuable pickup by the Bears this year.

The Bruins went 3 for 7 on the PP while shutting out the Kings on 5 PK's. Tommy Salo continued his strong play while starter Mike Dunham was on the bench trying to get healty. Bruins management was happy that the second and third liners could step up when the powerhouse first line of Kovalchuk-Modano-Demitra had an off night.

Next up for the Bruin during thier streak of 11 games in 15 nights are the the Mighty Hawks of Chicago. This is a game the entire League will be watching intently as vet Claude Lapointe will attempt a 60 minute game.

PHOENIX -- The Desert Dogs broke a 4 game losing streak with a strong 5-2 win against the Red Wings today. Adrian Aucoin, Igor Grigorenko, Mark Bell, and Jozef Stumpel all had impressive days with 2 points a piece and all of them were pluses in the game. The Coyotes blew the game wide open in the third period with three goals after entering the period tied 2-2. As of late the Coyotes have been hurt badly by injuries, losing Miroslav Satan, Marcus Ragnarsson, Andy Sutton, and Oleg Saprykin for multiple games. Marcus Ragnarsson returned for today's game and put in a solid performance with a +3 and 1 assist. Sutton, Satan, and Saprykin are expected back as soon as Wednesday's game versus the Might Ducks of Anaheim. The Coyotes GM has declined to speak to the public after the recent incident with the Boston Bruins GM.

Game Notes

Peter Sykora (1st Star) lights it up with 3 goals on Luongo.

Derek Morris (2nd Star) scores his 6th goal of the season, this one a short handed tally for the Thrashers.

Zdeno Chara (3rd Star) was a physical force tonight with 4 PIM. He matched his PIM total with 4 shots and was rewarded with an assist.

Derek Morris - after a slow start to the season he's making up for lost time, FAST. He now sits 2nd on the Thrashers scoring list with 18 points and is currently on a 2 game point streak.

Glen Murray - starting to heat up and put some goals up on the board. Currently on a 2 game goal streak.

Arkhipov - despite being on the 3rd line... he's managed to put up some decent offensive numbers, including a 2 game goal streak.

Game Story

Once again the Tampa Bay Lightning came out flat and were unable to recover in time to gain a victory. This time the Lightning were outplayed by the Toronto Maple Leafs giving up 4 goals on 35. Despite a good game from their top offensive players, the Lightning were only able to manage 2 goals on 26 shots.

GM Moon:

“35 shots is way too many for us to be giving up, especially if we are only going to score 2 goals. I thought Pavel skated well out there tonight and made some nice moves to set up the two goals, but his play has been too inconsistent and he has not even come close to scoring as much as we need him to.”

Surprisingly the Lightning were very disciplined this game and it seems their rough ways of earlier in the season have been curbed for now. Kloucek played his second game in a row without taking a penalty and his lead is down to only 2 PIM over Barret Jackman for the league lead.

The Springfield Falcons were able to get the win against the St. John Leafs in a high scoring 6-5 game.

The Lightning next play in two nights when they head to Dallas to battle the Stars. GM Moon has hinted that there may be changes coming to the line-up whether they are through trades, AHL call ups or line juggling.

Senators win

SENATORS 3 SHARKS 1



The Senators managed to win there 2nd game in a row to stay withing striking distance of the the league leaders. We are currently 3 points out of first in the conference and league with a Game in hand.

The game saw the Senators Special teams come up big.
THe Sharks got on the board first 8:15 into the first period. The goal was socred by Tyler Wright. Tyler then was so excited about scoring he made a bonehead move and took a boarding penalty. The Sentor responded right away , The normally 4th liner/PK forward Rob Dimaio scored his first goal of the season on the PP 8:57 into the period. Not normally used on the PP he made the most of his time there. Rob was quoted as saying" I was shocked when the coach put me on the ice but he just had a hunch"

The period ended with the game tied 1-1

The 2nd saw the Senators score the only goal. Nik Boynton scored is first goal of the season shorthanded.


The Senators then buckled down in the 3rd only allowing the Sharks 4 shots on goal the entire period. Rick Nash scored and insurance goal just over 5 minutes in. This was his 6th goal of the season.

The Defense stood tall the rest of the way as the Senators cruised to the win.

We now have one day off before getting back at it again vs the tough Flyers.

Regehr picks up slack as Niedermayer goes down early

The Buffalo Sabres continue to play some of their better hockey of the season. Unfortunately the injury woes continue, albeit of a minor nature. JS Giguere returned to play for the first time in 4 games after some serious exhaustion, and Steve Rucchin missed his final game with a minor injury--however the team is not intact as workhorse Scott Niedermayer went down 11 seconds into Sunday's tilt with the Canucks.

The team did not miss a beat in the short term however, as Robyn Regehr (2 goals), Kim Johnsson (first point as a Sabre), Lubomir Visnosky (assist) and Cory Sarich picked up the slack, with solid efforts to pace the Sabres 4-2 over the Canucks. Niedermayer's injury does not appear serious and John-Michael Liles has been recalled to replace him. "It's J-M's chance to shine" said Looooob. "he's a guy who is a bit under-rated by the SIM this year so he's playing in the AHL. But we know what an asset he is. He's the guy every team asks for in trades, trying to steal him from us. Our top 4 D should be able to shoulder the load for a few games. This is Johnsson's chance to shine"

The Sabres are rumoured however to be looking for a #6 defenceman in the 68-71 range to shore things up however. As their roster is nearing full, a depth winger such as May, Dimitrakos, Ekman, Domi or possibly even CPHL allstar Grant Marshall would have to be involved "we value some of these guys higher than others...obviously" said Looooob.

Overall the game was decent. Rangers could not score the big goal when it was needed. Islander were just more sharp on the night.

KINGS GET BITTEN BY BRUINS

With Dan Cloutier on the bench again suffering from fatigue, the Los Angeles Kings saw their three game win streak snapped by Brian Holzinger's Bruins on Sunday.

Mika Noronen faced Tommy Salo in the battle of the backups and the game was closely contested until Noronen folded like a cheap tent in the dying minutes of the game. But perhaps the true blame for the loss should squarely rest with LA's penalty killing units, who surrendered three of the four Bruin goals.

Bret Hedican and Mike Peca scored the goals for LA. Mike Leclerc and Darcy Tucker saw their point streaks snapped.

Jeff Halpern received a shoulder injury in the game and is listed as day-to-day. Scott Gomez played on the fourth line recovering from injury but will be healthy enough to be bumped up for next game.

Providence destroyed Manchester in AHL action.
