The only reason I included him is if it’s to improve goaltending as part of a package for a bonafide guy.
Not even really sure what that looks like, but I certainly move him if we can upgrade the position (but would just as well keep him and hope he takes another step).

I find it troubling that Monahan/Gaudreau have played in four playoff series during their careers, and in three of them they have bowed out in 5 games or fewer.
Van - Win in 6
Ana - Loss in 5
Ana - Loss in 4
Col - Loss in 5
Something is rotten in Denmark. Losing in the 1st round is one thing. Losing to a lower seed is one thing. Losing in 5 as the #1 is unacceptable under the best of circumstances, but it defies explanation that you could lose in 5 games with the goaltending they got.
Hey Mony. Just a suggestion. When you're down by three goals in the 3rd, and down 3-1 in the series, and you see Tyson Barrie handing your meal ticket his lunch, feel free to beat the #### out of him. You have three inches and 15 lbs on the guy. Lose your temper. Show us you're not Jay Bouwmeester reborn a centre.
While we're talking, if you're going to be softer than old kelp, you don't need to be 205. Stop deadlifting, get your ass down to 190, and pick up a step so you can actually keep up with your wingers.
It boggles the mind that Bob Hartley has more playoff wins than any Flames coach not named Sutter this century.
Neal must be bought out. I'll take the cap hit of $1.9 over the next eight years in return for not having James Neal on the ice at all for the next four.

The Flames need a 1C so bad it hurts. That’s hqrd to do in a cap era when you have 12 M tied up in Brouwer, Stone, and Neal. Not sure how Treliving always gets a free pass.

Trust the process. Tre knows the way. He wasn’t afraid to make moves last offseason.

Friedman basically confirmed that the Wild didn't submit the paperwork in time.
Beyond that, is it really logical to think Treliving worked on this trade down to the wire without knowing the player couldn't block it well in advance?

Well he knows how to give a press conference, you have to give him that.
The way I see it, it’s his team. The regular season was his. And so was this series.
We’ll never know but I wish I knew what he really thought about this team. The fact that he didn’t push all his chips in at the deadline is telling IMO. But then he has consistently overpaid for supporting players over the years which makes you think he believes in the core.

I really don't care how much hate I get for this.
Don't trade Sean Monahan.
Over a point per game this season. 3 30 goal seasons, hasn't scored less than 22 in his 6 year career. 24 years old.
Didn't show up for these playoffs, but I really don't think we can write him off as a non playoff guy. Had 4 goals in 4 games in 2017. Only his 3rd playoffs on a young inexperienced team.
I would not trade this guy, unless the return was something you could 1000% not say no to

107 points weak Western Conference year and most of our points from winning against non playoff teams.
Trade Monahan to NYR for #2 pick.
Try to sign Duchene
Trade Brodie to Fla for Hoffman
Shed salary via Frolik, if not impossible Neal
Czarnik for picks
Jankowski + Stone to TO for Kapanen
Promote Dube and Mangiapane
Gaudreau - Duchene - Hoffman
Tkachuk - Bennett - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Backlund - Kapanen
Dube - Ryan - Lazar/Hathaway
Giordano - Andersson
Valimaki - Hamonic
Hanifin - Kylington

Don't Oiler up the trading of Sean Monahan. Everything the organization says, until they actually trade him, should reinforce that Monahan is a core player and we expect him to be a Flame for life.
He puts up great numbers. While there is a Gaudreau effect, he's also the second best offensive player on this team.
But they aren't a young team anymore. This was their third post-season, and they had all the ingredients. The top line did not have another gear, and it's fair to ask at this point if it's because Monahan doesn't have another gear.
I think it will come out that Sean was hurt at some point after Christmas. He was not the same player in the second half of the season.
His unwillingness to engage physically is really difficult to ignore/excuse after a series like this.

You don't win when it matters when your top 3 centers are Monahan - Backlund - Janko.
Simply put Backlund needs to be the #3 C (and would be the best 3rd line C in the league) and at worst you need to add a 1b type center to form a 1-2 punch with Monahan.
As we're not gonna be drafting high and aren't a prime UFA destination, the best and maybe only way to get that C is by trading Johnny.
A trade centered around Johnny for Couturier makes a lot of sense.
And then go hard after Hall as a Johnny replacement - maybe a deal centered around Hanifin + a 1st.
Couturier - Monahan - Backlund down the middle with Hall, Tkachuk, Lindholm as your top wingers and Bennett, Dube, Mangiapane rounding out the top 9 is much better than the current forward group.
