Still can’t get over the double standard of slashing on Gaudreau vs MacKinnon.
Just goes to show the old LA Kings / Anaheim Ducks playoff strategy still holds: “instead of playing clean, commit so many offences that the refs can’t possibly call them all”

Gaudreau was far and away the best player on his line this series. It wasn't close.

Agreed, the Avs just covered JGs passing options, and thus it really hampered his ability to be effective. His linemates need to get open or make space.

|
Here's the thing that you're fundamentally missing
He generates offense in a season that doesn't really matter very much. This playoff has shown that
When it comes to the playoffs, Gaudreau is about as close to useless as you can get from a star. He is almost a complete non-factor. His one playoff point since 2015 is a secondary assist in a game the Flames lost
If you trade Gaudreau (and I think they should consider it), well, maybe it's time they get a crack at the lottery. It's not exactly something to sniff at. Literally every other team who's been around for more than two years has participated in the lottery! The Flames have never had the opportunity to select from that high-end pool of upper-echelon, top-of-the-board talent. They've always had to count on the underdogs coming through.
Not that I'm advocating for tanking as a first choice. I think they can give Gaudreau another crack at it. But if they trade him, it shouldn't be necessarily to tank. Just get another star who cares. Get another centre. Play Tkachuk on the first line with this dynamic centre and Lindholm on the right side.
Tkachuk - star centre acquired for JG - Lindholm
Bennett - Monahan - new right winger (Mangiapane?)

He had a bad playoff, a lot of players did. It's not the end of the world, need a hug?

I'll give credit to Gaudreau for giving a damn, sure he flubbed the penalty shot and the breakaway but the guy was trying his dick off. Besides Smith who else did? One other guy and that's it.

You would trade Gaudreau before Monahan or Lindholm after watching these 5 games. Well you are drunk! hahhaa

I'll tell you one thing, the team is more then one player away from a cup for sure. I am happy we did not do anything at the deadline. A rental would have been a waste and they will need long term solutions in the form of a centre that can push the top two down the depth chart. They also need a goalie, as good as Smith was, this was his last hurrah and Grubauer was even better.
Backlund has to be your third line centre, that being said, i think Bennett is a top 6 playoff forward. What to do with Neal? Get a good season out of him and move him out in year three.? Who knows?

Who cares in reality about the jersey throw. What another person does with his or her jersey means nothing to me. It’s theiir money. Throw it, sit on it, tear it up or wear it. It’s not my business what others do. Do whatever you want is my motto.

The most frustrating thing for me in this series was that the Flames got completely overplayed by a one-line (more like a one-player) team with average shallow defense and a backup goalie. Not by a big Dallas team, not by a super-stacked San Jose or Vegas teams. By f...n’ Colorado, which is pretty much like the Oilers... Man, I am so pissed off right now...

Could have been an apology for sure. Maybe Hath didn’t take it so well. I wouldn’t have either. Game out of hand, throw that elbow? Will sort you out next year pal. Agree he won’t get anything.

God, I wish.
Anyway, elite teams are built down the middle. I think this team would take on an entirely new look with Monahan as a 2C and an elite 1C of Johnny's value.
I think Monahan could flourish without the pressure of being the 1C. And damn, you could get an amazing centre by trading Gaudreau.

Flames would regret trading Gaudreau. With the right players he would dominate, even in the playoffs IMO

Not really anything eye opening from the post game comments. Usual sullen looks, tough to see the rest of the teams playing on TV, etc. Peter's didn't say much either. He seemed like a man without answers too. I was hoping for a bit more of a deeper analysis from Bill but he was pretty even handed in his remarks. Praised Smith and Mackinnon. Said Gaudreau played well this game. Thought the harder they tried the more it got away from them.

Nonsense. Fixating on a jersey toss is beyond petty. The Flames just took a figurative dump on the ice and you're worried about a ####ing jersey? Give your head a shake.

Hard to fathom really.

Did you notice how in the regular season up until the end of the year, Gio was always able to get pucks through the screens and players for a shot on net. Almost as good as Burns who is elite for that. However in the playoffs, they were either going wide, high or blocked by his own players or the Avs. Not even an intentional block but just couldn’t get pucks through. Frustrating
