Good for Peters!
Neal is going to have to suck it up as a good pro and understand he isnt playing well

His buyout, according to cap friendly, would be 8 years at just under 2 million per. Do they look at this? Would save almost 4illion cap space for next 4 years.

I think Neal is a Flame until the next CBA is done and there are compliance buyouts.

Its not quality of linemates either because how many shifts has he played with Johnny and Monahan? Literally almost every shift immediately after a PK when he takes Lindholm's spot, and I don't think they scored once all season.
|
He's done.
Don't know that it's physical, looks mentally out of it. Big swoops, lazy changes, no bear down.
Last I checked he was producing a 5-5 goal every ~160 minutes of even strength ice time.
Mangiapane by comparison is doing it every ~55 minutes.
Neal was on the second best offensive team in the league this year and produced at second season Brouwer levels, which was one of the worst offensive groups in the league that year.
Disaster.

Exactly. Obviously a hard pill to swallow, but as a team guy he knows this.

I don't think Tre can survive another big buyout. Its either find a dance partner who wants to try and reclaim Neal or stick with him and hope he finds his game here.

line mix up should have happened last game and jankowski should 100% be out for dube. valimaki/andersson need much more ice time than hanifin/hamonic

Neal as a healthy scratch, I never thought I would see the day. This day really could be the highlight of the Flames season so far. I hope he develops an allergy to his equipment over the summer.

Pretty much this. I do think he will ask for trade in off season, but nobody in their right mind will take him and his contract on.

Good point but does Tre survive anyway if we lose this series? I suspect they give him one more year but no deep run next year and he's done.

Two quick notes!

If true you can count the flames out as contenders for that entire period as well.
Me? I think moving Neal is the top priority of the organization going forward.

I know Jankowski has been meh. But i wonder how much of his game has been a result of knowing Neal will always be the last man back. Hard for the centre to drive play when his linemates have no pace. Also hard to be aggressive knowing Neal cant stop the opposing forwards if the play goes the other way.
Janko has also been a serious contributor to the Flames PK.
Saying that I was really hopeful that dube would draw in. Not sure for who tho.

Like the new lineup. Bennett deserves the shot on the first line, and can hopefully create some space for Johnny and Monahan.
I like Frolik on the 3rd line too. His puck pursuit might help generate some offense there or at least some possession time.
Ultimately it is still playoffs and there isn't much better.
I'm sure the Dome will be buzzing.
Go Flames Go!

A potential positive is that when Neal went down with injury the team went on a 7 game winning streak....

Yup. He is actively hurting the team. When he's on the ice it's like we're on the penalty kill.

I'm still bitter about the 94 playoffs when we were up 3-1. Next 3 games all went into overtime and we lost them all. Hopefully we can do the same thing the Canucks did to us. And this time Johnny wins it in game 7 overtime on a breakaway. Just like Bure did. GO FLAMES!

With guys like Dube/Valamaki/Mangiapani/Killington and some expiring deals/trades a buy out for Neal can be easily absorbed.

Flames lost 9-1 to PIT. Then followed it up with a close extra minutes shootout loss to WSH before going on a big run.
Same with the ugly 6-3 loss in TB. They followed it up with the close shootout loss in FLA. Then won 7 in a row.
It. Will. Happen.
