What the hell are we going to do with Neal. I’ll be honest, I really liked that signing, but he’s done. Christ, I’d rather have Lucic. At least he hits people and can fight.

(1) Mackinnons line has 20 on their own, so if that was a normal first line, you're down to 38 shots or so, which is still high. That explains 12 excess shots.

(2) Flames first line is playing terrible and we're hemmed in most of the night which explains another 6 exess shots or so by soderberg, wilson line.

(3) overtime explains 6 shots

Adjust for these three things and shots go down to 26.

I actually think Monahan can be an effective second line centre. I'm more inclined to try to trade Gaudreau+ for a top line centre.

So ####ing tired of the NHL’s officiating.

Yes the flames sat back in the third period, but they were also 3 mins from winning.
Then the refs changed the standard, put the flames in the box for a trip that looked like it was at least half MacKinnon twisting himself into a pretzel (and similar to countless non-calls on Gaudreau).

So Colorado scores with 2:30 to go and the Flames “get their chance” on a black-and-white/makeup call in OT? Obviously Colorado still has the momentum and they win bc sudden death.

How does the NHL still have fans again? Because that’s ####ing bush league.
I don’t care whether it’s the first game of the season, the all star game, playoffs, or the last minute of game seven. Just call the rules consistently.

We’re all going to cheer for the flames no matter what, but how do you grow the sport when the rules shift from game to game?

Between the Flames play and the refs legit cheating its hard to justify hundreds of dollars for tickets. Especially when prices in places the league favors are a fraction of the cost.

High stick on Vali, video evidence of the ref looking right at it

not even mentioning the standard changing from game to game

The only thing this series has taught me is that we need to trade for MacKinnon

The forwards are severely lacking in complete players, outside of the Swedes there’s nobody that can play any situation, and they both barely pass the “not skilled enough” bar

Players that are in multiple categories can play somewhere else next year
I corrected your list. In this series, I've never seen Backlund so slow with his skating. People complain about Neal being slow, but FFS, Backlund costed the Flames in both of the OT goals by the Avs! Backlund can be a bonehead with some of his plays in the past and it's clearly shown in this series so many times. Hate the fact that Cassie Campbell kept praising Backlund and then he does his bonehead moves to cost the Flames in the last 2 Avs' goals. As for the "Too Soft" category, 3/4 of the lineup are too soft. I only listed the main culprits.

As for Neal, not sure what the deal is, but on any other true playoff contending teams in the past, he's been played appropriately and effectively. Maybe the way how the Flames play with them not willing to dump and chase the pucks in the attack zone, he's not being used appropriately with size and support along the boards. Almost everyone is trying to go through the D or try to hold possession of the puck on the blue line and then the Flames cough the pucks up and go back the other way. Frickin ridiculous to watch. They can do this during most of the regular season games, but they have not learned from their defeats several years ago against the Ducks.

Johnny and Gaudreau are absolutely top-end talent. That's my point. They have too much on their shoulders.

On the positive side, Valimaki was instantly one of our top defencemen. It does make you wonder what took so long for him to get into the lineup and also why he didn’t get more ice time tonight.

Also, I honestly would sit Neal and Jankowski next game for... literally anyone else.

Playoff hockey is not suited for Gaudreau, I think even he knows that. But he can still be successful I think, he just needs a center that’s more puck dominant and can carry the puck up the middle more instead of always deferring to his winger Gaudreau. It’s tough always being expected to create from the wing when double teams and etc are coming at you.

Then you play Johnny with Bennett and maybe someone like Lindholm. Remove Monahan from the situation entirely, let him try to find his way on another line. He just seems to be floating aimlessly out there waiting for a feed from Johnny that will never come. So give him others with a good motor who like to shoot that may face easier minutes, like with Mangiapane and Czarnik.

It's time to split the big two up. Each are deferring to each other and hoping the other gets something done. Hell, it was long overdue after game 3. I'm not sure why it hasn't been tried now. We are against the ####ing ropes, time to try some experimentation.

I can’t believe people in here are advocating for Rittich to start game 5.

WTF?

Smith faced 52 shots tonight. 56 on Monday.

Only reason we are still (sort of) in this series.

If you are here to say "I told you so" because the Flames are losing in the playoffs that is pretty lame, almost like you were hoping for it
Whats lame is attacking somebody repeatedly for having a different opinion that you, and questioning whether they are a fan of the team.

I'm just as mad as anybody they are in this situation. Lets call a spade a spade though, this is not a playoff team and the stars on the squad can't get it done in crunch time.

Like I said previously, some good building blocks on the back end, up front needs a makeover. Build the forward group around speed and maybe sometime during our life time we can experience playoff success.

Zone time is one thing, but I am amazed at how few shots we block. Anyone remember Kris Russell blocking 16 shots in one game? Not sure our whole roster hit 16 tonight.

Shot blocking shouldn't be a primary plan, but it can't not be a second resort.

What a dark history.

Thats Flames hockey tho. Always choosing the wrong guys . I still hate we took Kidd before Broduer.
Look, in hindsight that was bad. But let's not act like Kucherov didn't just #### the bed for Tampa recently.

I have to wonder if Monahan, Gaudreau and Jankowski put this kind of effort into Fortnite, and Neal into Tetris.

I'd also like to add that playoffs Neal couldn't hope to hold playoffs Versteeg's jockstrap.

Some people are advocating for it because they just want the team to change something. During the regular season as well, the team looked more comfortable in front of Rittich.

That's not to say Smith hasn't been the best Flame in the playoffs.
