Have to say I'm shocked with UCP leading Calgary SE. Voting in a guy that had to replace the original candidate halfway through the election, but more surprised since I thought that riding would be a lay up for Rick Fraser either way

I don't mind the idea of the UCP, I just wish they could've picked someone who's not a jackass like Kenney
I voted for Clark and I'm disappointed to see he's not winning

Kenney's parachute candidate Len Rhodes appears to be losing. Good.

I'm in favour of Alberta using any and all levers at its disposal, but I'm not so sure they're going to be as effective as people think they are. The majority of BCers who turning off the taps would hurt aren't living in ridings that went NDP and Green in the last election. You also probably end up with a bit of collateral damage to Albertans with vacation homes in BC (obviously not a massive segment of the population but they're there).
If the goal is trying to convince BC to turf Weaver and Horgan, you need to hurt them in ridings they can't afford to lose (Vancouver and the island) and I'm not sure what strategy would be most effective in doing so but at the same time doesn't create some sort of NIMBY blowback that strengthens Horgan's approval in those areas.

Yeah for sure, I didn't mean that last sentence to come off as a dry threat or harbinger of doom, reading it back it kind of sounds like that.
Definitely agree that it's a risky play, this thing is a weapon that you can only really fire once. There's a right and a wrong way to do it, you'd have to wait until BC is the clear combatant to this project (after the FCA ruling gets taken care of) and you'd have to be directly provoked. You'd also have to try and sway public opinion against Horgan with like, TV ads idk. Say that the embargo is 100% within their control of not harassing the project any longer, talk about how this is a fight Alberta didn't start and doesn't want, we're more than happy to supply BC with product as long as there is demand for it, quarrel not with ordinary BCers, etc. Even then you risk alienating a bunch of people, esp people that voted Liberal in from Vancouver, you're right. Let's all hope it doesn't come to that.

When was the last Alberta election where the Conservative party or parties got less than half of the vote? Even in 2015, the Wildrose and PC parties totaled 52% combined, and it’s not like they were going to lose many of those votes as an amalgamated party.

Every time I look at that riding he closes the gap more and more at least.

48 votes for the Communist Party of Alberta. All from Edmonton. No f..n' good.

My feelings as well. My distaste for this results is much more cantered around Kenney than it is to do with UCP.
Change in politics is good, and trying something else when clearly Alberta needs a big boost is also good. I don’t trust Kenney, but I have to believe UCP will do alright.

Irrelevant now, but why is it Alberta is pretty well a two party system? I’m kind of surprised the AP and Liberals have NO seats...are we that clearly divided?

I think your point really highlights the damage the fractionation of the right did.
I would imagine the centre is suffering from the same thing. I could see the Liberal/AP merged party actually grabbing some seats in Edmonton/Calgary if they united and recruited some decent candidates.

Liberals in Alberta are never going to be relevant. I hoped the AP would fare better for sure so we have more legit options next election.
