I can't watch game (out of country), but from the highlights, Smith stood tall, Brodie making mistakes on the two regulation colorado goals, Calgary couldn't finish their chances in OT, and MacKinnon could. That about sum it up?

Come on now. Are you seriously happy with his play? He has been a ghost since January.
Monny has won as much as your examples...ROR has 4 career playoff goals, just saying it was a terrible example.

Flames don't have a first overall pick in the lineup...or a top 3. That is why they are built with depth not just one line.

It is what it is, saying the same thing every time the Flames lose is pointless

Feeling the Flames just don't have it after this one game is overreacting. The Flames have been outworked for most of the periods and they haven't shown what they can do yet. I don't like the momentum that the Avs have coming out of this, but the Flames responded well to adversity throughout the season. They didn't quit after getting killed by the Pens early in the season. They may benefit from sometl adversity bringing them together

Uh, Brodie wasn't even on the ice for one of them.

MacKinnon is better than Monahan but not by as much as you seem to think, in either regular season or playoffs.

Don’t understand the darling comment? Believe it or not I agree we could have won an overtime game. Disappointed we didn’t and I don’t think we dersvered it tonight. I personally hope it will be a long couple of months.

They had a great season, they got the results. But when i watch teams who have Stanley Cup level success (in the past), they all have the ability to turn it up a notch when things get tighter and I just don't see that in this team. Hopefully I'm wrong.
118 3rd period goals would suggest they do have the ability to raise their game when it counts.

Win one, lose one, that's the game. It's so hard to win two games in a row in the playoffs. Teams aren't holding anything back, and 15 years ago, this city watched a team with much less going for it than the Colorado Avalanche nearly win the Stanley Cup.

Until they don't, assume things'll work out.

It's a shame that it took 3 periods before the Flames started skating. They were on their heels for most of the regulation time and seems a step behind the Avs. They sat back a lot and let the Abs come to them as opposed to standing them up at the blueline. A frustrating game to watch.

Brodie with a couple of giveaways that lead to breakaways had me shaking my head

Smith put on another goaltending display that had me wondering where he was at the beginning of the season. I like what I see now and I hope he keeps it up. We'll need his tending if we hope to win the series.

Avs have played the Flames five times this season and won 1 of them

Avs have a better top line that most teams (maybe all) its not just the Flames...good thing for us though hockey is a team sport

What? Mackinnon is a far better player than Monahan. He drives play, generates chances for others, is somebody you literally game plan around shutting down. Monahan not so much, he's got a good shot and can win a draw, other than that he's completely reliant on Johnny.

All you are doing is making excuses for the team not having a top line C though. I get it, Mac was a #1 and we drafted 6th. But reality is that one team has a top line C that is the talk of the town and the other team's top line C is invisible. The #1 team is tied 1-1 with a one line #8 seed. Largely because our top line has been a non factor.

Hope so man. Like I said prior, not so much about the result, more about the ability of the team to carry play.

It will be interesting to revisit this in a few seasons. Monahan made a lot of headway points wise when MacKinnon had a mediocre season 2 through 4. He's shaken that off and it's not really that close anymore.

Monahan is a really good player. He's not in MacKinnon's tier.

Mackinnon is the 2nd best offensive player in the league.

Exactly right. Has anyone ever heard anyone talk about shutting down Monahan?

Not I. MacKinnon is the most explosive player not named McDavid in the league.

Haha. He is dynamic, and your point has merit. In a single game , I would put him up against almost anyone

My son pointed out that he is tougher than McD. He is up for adoption now. That's sacrilegious.

It absolutely floors me how lackadaisical Brodie looks even in the intensity of the playoffs.

I think this is his last season with the Flames.
