They gave that a match penalty? Oh man, I don't agree with that one at all. Highly doubt it'll be a suspension, I think the head contact was completely incidental.
Anyway, Canes tie it up. Go Carolina.

I agree that it was harsh, but think it plays a part that he just came out of the box.
It's a legit fear the next hit is a concussion, the way he was playing.

Wtf are you babbling about now? Nobody is saying they want direct head shots but clean hits are now being called match penalty hits if there is an injury on the play.

Not saying I agree with it, but I think it affects how the ref sees the situation.
Makes Ferland seem a lot more reckless.

April 13. Playoff Hockey all Day!
It astonishes me that some people struggle so much with the difference between “head” and “shoulder” or “chest.” Doug MacLean is an idiot for arguing that Dowd was hit in the “chest.”

Agreed, not trying to start anything - but I really dont see a suspension. It was a borderline major.

Me neither. I am fine with the hit myself, but who knows what the NHL will do

I don’t. Head contact is a serious issue and people need to take it seriously for the sake of the players and their long-term cognitive health.

Right? DoPS makes reference to a 'full body check' in a lot of their suspension videos.
Wasn't this a perfect example of that?

I’ve watched the GIF a bunch and it sure looks like he is hit and his head comes down and hits ferland. Seems to be the majority opinion.

Ferly's hit seemed okay to me.
I doubt if he gets any supplemental discipline.

Ferland hit him with his lower back. That's not a match penalty.

I agree with Roenick. Dougie is far more suspendable than Ferland. I think the match penalty call was right on Ferland. Dont think there'll be much more.
Folks forget that refs are making calls in real time. In real time thay Ferland hit looked as bad as it gets. Passing judgement on a call because we have slow motion replay is not fair.
Again, Roenick made a good point that on major calls refs should be able to watch a replay to get the call right. It's another thing that'll slow the game down but at least they'll have the ability to maybe call the game better.
That's something that has been and will be looked at again I'm sure by GMs.
Either way. Dougie should get 2 for that elbow. That was on a star player and as cheap as it gets.

No suspension. Obviously didn’t target the head and it wasn’t the principal point of contact.

Pierre McGuire needs to take deeper breaths. It sounds like he's about to die telling me useless Canes trivia.
