As a somewhat newer member here it's incredibly difficult to sign up at Calgarypuck, and a lengthy process as well. By the time some Av's fan sign up and the acceptance process happens the series could well be over. IIRC I had to email inquiring what the potential hold up was too. Now that I think about it I haven't noticed many other 2018 Join Dates, much less 2019.
No judgement, I don't know the history, if these measures have always been in place, are new etc etc but considering how long it took me to sign up I don't think we'll be seeing rival fans.

Crazy I obviously signed up long long ago but had no idea there was a vetting process. When I first enrolled I don’t know if I even needed an email? Just a username and a password and away I went but it’s so long I can’t recall.

I remember a bit of a vetting process when I signed up, although I barely posted here until late 2015 so I wasn't that aware of the goings-on of the site around when I first joined.

How did you guys pay the entry fee? I couldnt even E-Transfer mine, I had to mail Bitcoin to an anonymous account in Geneva...

It would be nice if the apparently draconian sign-up process was eased for the playoffs. Get some rival fans in here and some new bandwagoners as well once the Flames go deep. Think about how many people signed up in 2004, would be a shame to not use the playoffs to get some new blood up in here.

New blood isn't always quality blood. I suspect that the types of people that show up now would be gone as soon as the playoffs are over, or worse, be banned within the first few weeks after disrupting the forum. I don't think any of us would be fond of the latter.
I'm perfectly fine with the current system of vetting users.
