I try not to be superstitious, but the flames really turned it on after I stopped playing a purple guitar and switched to a red and white one. I'm now seriously considering only playing that guitar during games now.

MacKinnon is such a presence on the ice...he is scary good. I agree with you completely.

Vertical orientation and completely useless, oversized text placed right in the middle of the clip is so very crackmacs.

From an Avs fan in the ATL:

Quote:
Our grit players are too slow to hit anything, our skill players are terrified they may get hurt. Recipe for a quick exit
This was actually the key to our win last night. Barely halfway through the first period we saw Colorado players start to look over their shoulders and/or dump the puck off quick out of fear of getting hit. The Avs certainly pressured us when the penalties shifted momentum for a while, but they played scared most of the night. Lindholm especially was absolutely crushing guys.

This can't easily be taught. You either have it or you don't
He's a quick learner as well. Had a very similar chance a couple minutes before he scored and decided to shoot well out instead of drive the lane. Then he goes out, sees the lane, and makes a hard push to the net and gets rewarded.

I'm super stoked too see where Mangiapane tops out at.

CGY gave up a couple of odd man rushes. Other than that, defensive game was good.

When you see Johnny Gaudreau throwing his tiny body into people, you gotta love it. Tkachuk driving them nuts, perfectly on the edge. Hamonic with that great stick on the two on one. Smith playing out of his mind.

Great stuff!

I was shocked at the lack of physicality from Colorado. Every other first round matchup has been a war.

I also loved the almost all Swedish line brawl that nearly happened at the end

Totally. Lindholm, Hathaway, Neal, and Bennett.

It's almost worse when it's not a physical game all around, but there are physical guys in the game throwing big hits. 'cause instead of everyone agreeing to hit and be hit, it's like skill skill skill WHAM big hit. You just don't expect it. Throws you off. Gets in your head.

I like what they did last night and hopefully keep doing going forward.

As much credit as Backlund does get here, he is still under rated.
3M was outstanding yesterday

Super early take but my only concern going into this series was our goaltending and even if it is average I love our chances.

I know we have a deep team but in a playoff style game you can really see the difference our depth is going to make. Our top line practically did nothing last night and we handedly won. There are very very few teams in this league that have that luxury.

The 3M line dominates possession and works the puck down low so well it's ridiculous and against a 1 line team like the Avs this will most likely make for a very short series.. Frolik is not a top 6 forward but because of his chemistry with 19 and 11 he can play those minutes which gives us even more options on our 3rd line.

I believe game 4 will be the only game we lose in this series probably on a OT goal

Amazing Game 1. The boys were HITTING early. Hath was doing his thing of course. Bennett as well. But Lindholm was an animal, Neal was finishing his checks, and even Johnny had a couple of takeouts as well. I don’t know if that came from Peters but to a man nobody was backing down last night.

Chucky was a beast. Couldn’t believe Johnson would be dumb enough to crosscheck him in the face early and get penalized. Another Av got destroyed by his backside just before Backlund’s penalty. His 2-0 goal was beautiful (another example of a goalie trying to interfere with 19 and getting burned), and the EN goal was pure salt.

Gio was in Norris-mode and Brodie was skating well too. Also loved how Hamonic was engaged. Biggest stat of the game was probably 2-5 on the PP and 4-4 on the PK. We win that battle and the series could be over quick.

And what can you say about Mike Freaking Smith. Channeling Mike Vernon in that glorious retro mask, down to the red and gold CCM glove that snared every puck that dared to elude him. It’s only one game, but if Smitty can get on a run, watch out folks — it may turn out that Flames goaltending IS one of the main storylines for the playoffs...

I like during the intermission when the panel slowed and broke down Tkachuks 1st goal. In game I thought his jersey just got tangled with Grubauers stick accidentally. They slow it down and show Grubauers elbow jerk out to cause it on purpose.

Little games within the game that I love learning about.

So happy the refs and the war room didn't reward Grubauers attempt.

That and the first penalty Thuckuk drew. He really is a genius.
