Ya, I don't have one because I use a projector that doesn't have a tuner. But like Eldrick said, quality is better than cable becuase it isn't a compressed stream. If I had a tuner I'd probably use it for the quality.

OP, If you've exhausted all 'legal' options, PM me before I head to the 'Dome and I'll give you a special link that will ensure you can watch the game along with the rest of us.

I've vented on here many times about the legal sites, but the NHL really has made it difficult me to give them my money, considering how terrible their product is. So I feel no qualms about going about it how I do after years of struggling through Gamecenter.

I'll give it a try tonight on my phone on LTE (it uses GPS to determine location). I used it last night on my Apple TV which is setup with a DNS service and had no problems watching all 5 games on my Rogers NHL Live account. This is where I was checking for blackouts:

Anyways, for those with Apple TV's, the NHL app is amazing for playoffs. 2 games at the same time, easy to flip between them, on a 4K TV you get full resolution in each of the game panes, all in glorious 60fps.

It truly is telling that the not-so-legal options are way more reliable, higher quality and way, way smoother than the legal ones

CBC has News, Gem, Radio and Music on the Apple TV. Sports is mobile devices only. I'm going to guess that's the same on other platforms.

I just had a little back and forth rant with NHL.TV via email, on what was the point of taking my money, to upgrade from Flames only to full coverage, if everything is blacked out in the US.

'You can stream 48 hours after', was the response. I could not even respond to that...

My internet provider, who is also the local cable provider, is useless too.

I am begging them to take my money for a service they can provide. Makes no sense.

It's a blessing in disguise.

Go to your neighborhood pub and get rip roaring drunk and meet other Flames fans in your area.

Plus you can stuff your face with wings.

FYI, the CBC app is limited to 30 FPS, which is very noticeable when watching hockey. Sportsnet Now and Gamecenter are both 60 FPS

I will cancel NHL.tv forever if I cannot watch the game here in US tonight.

When I was down in the US I had good luck getting a VPN to Canada and just streamed from CBC. Worked for the Olympics too.

What VPN did you use???

ugh, I'm on a trip in upstate ny right now. My Game Center doesn't work here, at least it didn't for last nights games, all due to "regional blackout". Of course my hotel tv didn't have all the possible channels games could be on (only has USA and NBC sports/versus).

I have no idea if tonight's game that is slotted to air on NBCSN will be available in my room.

I am getting nervous, as for one, I Can't stay out at a bar till the end of the game as I have meetings starting at 7am and I'd get wrecked if I watched at a bar all nite. Secondly, I'm in a small town, most restaurant/bars aren't even open after 10-11pm EST (game start is 10:30pm EST).

ugh

Stand by... Working on that.

Update:

CBC News is now streaming on my phone! Should be good to go for puck drop. Hopefully things do not flake out when I try to screen mirror with the AppleTV.

I think I need to leave the office early for 'personal reasons'...

Pellanor, a million thanks!

You will not be able to.

Their rule is that if it's nationally broadcast, they don't show it. The theory being that they don't want to compete with your local cable provider. Same reason they black out in-market games.

I keep giving them feedback that I haven't had cable in a decade at this point, and I'm never going back. I'm not alone in that.

I'd happily pay extra for a legal option to watch playoffs (especially Canadian broadcasts).

Yea, I believe USA playoffs are mostly blacked out through NHL.tv due to licensing rights with NBC.

Canada is the opposite, if it's broadcast nationally on CBC, it's fair game through nhl.tv/rogers nhl live.

If the game is on CBC, you can usually find it streaming at cbc.ca/player. Just search for the name of the city that the game is in in the search bar
