For 5 years I think he would get 10M+, those are still prime years.
But I was thinking a 7-8 year contract could see him at about 9M, like you suggest, which again isn't all that big of a raise. It's less than the cap-raise by that time.
I say go for it, I'd rather the Flames be elite for the next 4 years and even bad the 4 years after instead of just being good for 8 years. Go big or go home.

Trading for and signing him this summer make the most sense IMO. Usually pretty terrible at these things but what kind of value does Brodie + Kylington have?
With all his follies he's still a quality second pair blueliner capable of playing both sides. Those guys have serious value. Kylington is a legit D prospect but it's clear he's behind Anderrson and Valimaki.

Does anyone else get a bit of a Phil Kessel vibe to the 2nd half of Hall's career? I have a feeling he's going to rewrite his legacy in his early 30s.

Hopefully they can keep Kylington and center a deal around Brodie and picks.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Hall
Tkachuk-Backlund-Lindholm
Bennett-Jankowski-Neal
Mangiapane-Ryan-Hathaway
Czarnik/Dube
Gio-Andersson

That’s an absolutely terrifying line-up.

I like that comparable. Throughout his career his offensive support has been Eberle, Palmieri and like half a season of fresh faced 18 year old McDavid with little support coming from the backend. Put him on a team where he isn't the defacto number 1 threat, or in most cases only, and see what he can do.
Even a second line could shift the focus a bit off him, but he's never had that luxury and was still able to score 93 points when the rest of his team struggled for 50.
Like Kessel, I see him as a "number 1 guy" on most teams but if he's your number 1 guy, you're not going to make a lot of noise.

I think most fans respect hall as an elite player, I don’t think that was the case with Kessel after his tenure with Toronto. Hall hasn’t had a chance with the tire fire teams he’s played for and he still managed to win the hart. I’d love to see what he could do here, could really maximize his potential

I think Kessel had the lazy, fat and awkward thing but Hall has the dumb of rocks thing. Not that we should put much stock into "fans respect" but I think both were looked at as elite talent but not necessarily true leaders.
Kessel was with the Leafs for six years, Kessel lead the Leafs in scoring for six years. Between that time he was 16th in scoring. He was still elite but the Leafs were a joke and he wasn't really a player that could be "that guy" especially in a place like Toronto with the added scrutiny.
Although I do understand were you're coming from.
Edit: On second thought, Team USA did leave him off the team that one time. More about how stupid management was, but I guess even outside fans he didn't get no respect. The Rodney Dangerfield of the NHL, just a bit fatter.

I just remember how much Toronto fans crapped on him at the end of his time there, and I remember people remarking that he was overpaid. Kessle, for the reasons you mentioned, had always been disrespected before going to Pitt imo. I think Hall has been fairly rated by the hockey world, besides when Oiler fans liked to claim he was better than Johnny.

Ralph Krueger will leave FC Southampton after this season. I wonder if he fancies a return to coaching.

I came across an article recently (might have been in the Athletic), and Krueger said he might be interested in coming back to the NHL, but not as a coach.

The MacTavish effect. He can become the Oilers new GM.

Except I think Krueger would make a competent NHL executive and I hope he is no where near the oilers organization.

My guess is the Sabres know where McLellan is going, and Kruger will be the new HC in Buffalo.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kruger was taking the POHO job in Ottawa.
The Lebrun article in the athletic talked about how Kruger wanted a Presidents job if he came back to the NHL.

No, and he has also not learned to disappear when the chips are down. I want absolutely no part of Hall, especially at the dollars he will command.

The Canucks are also looking and Kruger has been mentioned.
Not sure I understand it. He's smart guy obviously but don't you want a guy who has worked at all levels of NHL management to be a POHO?

According to Bobby Mac the Sabres wont be hiring McLellan, sounds like he might be heading to the Kings.

Makes sense. That was the original rumour too wasn't it?
Sabres seem like a Alain Vigneault type of place. They have the World Championship connection going on right now as well, with AV and Botterhill
