That Andrew Ladd signing doesn't look very good, but who knows if it's just because of the injuries.

Default Panthers fire Head Coach Boughner. Hiring of Quenneville could be announced Monday.

Or, he just might have looked like a genius because he was trading with Chiarelli so much.
Snow drafted Barzal and Beauvillier in the same draft, didn’t he? That was a bit of a coup.

Agreed. It was a bad decision from the get-go, not just hindsight. Was just curious as to who you thought could have been the player they protected.

Can no longer remember the details at the time. Only remember thinking they made a really bad decision (at the time). Also remember Cali being (rightly) pissed as well.

I think it is difficult to really judge Snow as a GM when he was working for a GM who was so hands-on. Although his tenure was actually pretty lengthy, it was also his first kick at the can so to speak, and you could clearly see that he was improving. I don't think Snow is as bad as people think, at least not any longer.

As for losing Marchessault, wasn't part of the whole situation the general feeling of perhaps Marchesssault over-achieving and everything going right for him, and that future contract possibly being a risk? Either way, it did end up back-firing for Florida, especially since Petrovic not only didn't take a step forward in his development, but may have even regressed.

I am actually happy for Florida. I would much rather cheer for them than Tampa, or at least half of the Eastern teams. I haven't disliked them at all since they entered the NHL, even if they rain down rats during the playoffs.

Boughner is a good coach. He'll land on his feet somewhere, though more likely as an assistant in the NHL.

I can't tell you how happy this announcement makes me. If this team gets a good goalie and another solid defenseman long-term, they could be serious playoff contenders next year. Coach Q will create the right habits that this team still sorely needs to learn.

Source says Quenneville's deal in Florida worth north of $30 million over five years depending on bonuses. So $6 million plus a year. He was making $6 million a year in Chicago in his old deal. Tells you how aggressive/committed the Panthers are at making this off-season count.

Did Q coach Panarin with the Blackhawks? Wonder if that will help/hurt their off-season chances of landing the bread man.

He did coach him and they apparently had a pretty good relationship.

Man....if the Panthers land Q, Panarin and maybe Bobrovsky that could be one scary good team.

Confirmed that Quenneville is going to Florida. 5 years, 30 million plus bonuses. That team could be really good next year if they're able to add Panarin and Bobrovsky

I feel like we've been waiting for Florida to be good for almost as long as Buffalo.

Nah, Florida was pretty good three or four years ago when they had Jagr. Pretty sure they won the Atlantic once or at least came close

They haven't won a playoff round since 1996, and have made the playoffs 3 times in the last two decades. Your definition of "pretty good" is different than mine.

The parting with Panarin was purely due to cap considerations. The actual trade for Saad, seemed more for the benefit of Toews, who had chemistry with him before. There was no bad blood with anyone.

Good to see the Panthers maybe trending in the right direction for once. I imagine he has a decent relationship with Talon and this has to nearly guarantee that Panarin will be joining the Panthers.

Hmm, I suppose I may be misremembering the Jagr years. They did win the Atlantic in 2016 with 103 points but they got bounced more quickly than I thought.
