Allison Gentry, a landowner near Cremona, shared her story today, which recounts a serious incident which resulted in an assault charge and a peace bond issued to Nixon.Gentry’s official statement details the altercation between her and Nixon during which he shouted, “Do you wanna shoot that bitch?” to his fellow hunters while hunting on Ms. Gentry’s property.
Nixon was issued a peace bond, requiring him to pay the court a $2000 fine and to stay 500 metres away from the woman’s house.

I think the NDP is done, Rachel Notely had to win the debate big time, and win over Calgary voters to have a chance.
Her buddy-buddy relationship with Trudeau brought up by Kenny really killed her chances there. But to me the final knockout blow was when she actually made the mistake of attacking Kenny on Calgary jobs and he fired back with "You're the expert in killing jobs in downtown Calgary" to which she had no response. She was caught trying to be clever very much like Prentice 4 years ago.

Really feel like you've like you've got your priorities a bit mixed up here...
Has a party ever had a single campaign with so many bozo eruptions? Did they even vet their candidates?

Just watching the polls, for the most part, the NDP hasn't moved the needle or done a great job of closing the gap. With 9 days left, I think unless Kenney murders a baby on TV, the results are going to be a UCP government. Whoever formulated the NDP strategy failed to realize that the Voters didn't want to see a campaign that was short on substance and long on Kenney is evil.
I think also people looked at the math of the NDP spending promises and realized that they are unaffordable, especially when the byline of the other parties is that the NDP are a government that spends money like I drink liquor.

Kenney would still get votes even if he did. Pathetic but true.

I'd argue that the expectation that political parties articulate a cogent vision for the province in the next four years should be the number one priority for voters in this (or any) election. While the comments that have surfaced from several UCP and NDP candidates have been idiotic and should certainly be a consideration, they do not trump policy.

When elections are decided on the basis of a 90 minute session of 4 adults speaking on top of each other, it reveals 2 things. One is that it really doesn’t matter who wins. Two is that democracy is in trouble.

Does flip flopping on support of a dam and still having one candidate say the party has it as a priority while another candidate says the party doesn’t support it articulate a cogent vision?
They also had to go back and re-word their OT plans because it was absolutely not cogent. Combine that with their leader saying it’s a tolerant party but a bunch of candidates showing they aren’t very tolerant doesn’t show they’re prioritizing anything clearly.

I attended the Calgary Mountain View candidate forum on Friday night. It was really well done in format with a quick fire section that asked for a yes or no answer with a sentence to clarify.
Overall impressions:
Alberta Party candidate Angela Kokott was really good. She has a very charming personality, and I think her history in radio was very beneficial. She diverged from the party line on a few things, either because she missed the question or maybe just had a bit more personality.
Alberta Independence Party got a few laughs as the candidate kept saying that we’d be able to pay for everything since we weren’t sending $40B to Ottawa every year. Her answer to most things was that, which she recognized and made light of.
Green Party candidate Thana was awesome. He has a future in politics if he can run under any other banner. He was thoughtful, well spoken and definitely presented some good ideas, but he’s not going to get much support overall. Any other election and I’d probably vote for him.
This is the riding for the former leader of the Liberals and it’s like David Swann wanted Khan to take over for him. He made light of his debate memes joking about how often he takes about being a Constitutional and Native affairs lawyer, and laying pipe. He didn’t show well. He kept going over his time and not answering things well. He and Thana were vibing with each other as he kept agreeing with and reenforcing what Thana had to say.
NDP Kathleen Ganley was well spoken, and seemed to have a lot of support from the room. She started off strong, but eventually drifted into making veiled statements about what the UCP would do. Overall, she didn’t perform particularly well, but did give some good answers.
UCP was Jeremy Wong and I don’t think he had a lot of support in the room. He waffled on a bunch of questions, especially the yes or no, and that made the crowd a visibly annoyed. He took several swipes at the NDP and made a couple of factual errors in his attacks on the NDP. In particular, he seemed to be pandering for votes, like when being asked about cuts to education or healthcare, he said no, that funding levels would be held or raised, but I’m not sure how that’s possible with the proposed tax cuts and cutting deficit spending.
Overall, the forum was really well attended, there was standing room only, and I think the forum gave a lot for people to think about. The candidates were all very respectful, and you got a chance to learn a lot about who they were. This was so much better than the leaders debate, which I thought was useless and served very little purpose.
I left the forum hopeful for the Alberta Party. If I was to guess based on the room and the lawn signs, were going to have a split riding with one party taking it with like 35% of the vote. Which sucks, because I think that the split will really upset most of the riding.

Especially because if the shoe was in the other foot and she even suspected the UCP of having a member who had had sexual misconduct allegations levied against them, she’d be shrieking in front of a microphone about the coverup and be demanding the police be involved

Unfortunately our riding tends to have a fairly significant amount of NDP'ers which is disappointing.
I mean, I like being given stuff too...but the cost is so incredibly high (ie 50B in debt) and people are simply glossing over that fact. Absolutely blows my mind.
