17th Avenue bars hope Flames playoff run will 're-ignite' the Red Mile
https://calgaryherald.com/business/l...e-the-red-mile

		| The city will be stopping construction while the Flames are in the playoffs, but a total of 29 businesses on 17th Avenue S.W. closed in just two months this past winter. Many of the closed shops have blamed the construction and the city’s property tax crisis as reasons for shutting down.
About two months ago, Trolley 5 put up their “Heart of the Red Mile” sign outside the bar, and Tsu said the bar has been packed for every Flames game since.

“I think it’s perfect timing for all the business on 17th that have endured the construction so far and, of course, the crazy property taxes which the city is currently working through,” Tsu said.

Jamesons Pub on 17th owner Steve Marakis shared Tsu’s hope that a playoff berth will mean the return of large, thirsty crowds.

“Calgary definitely needs a boost. It’s been a tough time the last three or four years, so it’s good to see them make the playoffs,” Marakis said. “The avenue’s kind of lost a little bit of its appeal, I think, so hopefully the Flames can re-ignite that.”

Two 11th Avenue pubs bring back Electric Avenue for Calgary Flames playoff run

		| It’s the modern version of Three Cheers and Fox and Firkin. Throw in a little Coconut Joe’s and Bandito’s.
Two 11 Avenue pubs are attempting to gift the Calgary Flames with special luck these playoffs by bringing back Electric Avenue, the notorious party zone from the Flames’ only Stanley Cup winning year in 1989.

Last Best Brewing and Broken City are partnering in the promotion, as well as Wild Rose Brewery, who named their Electric Avenue lager after the location.

According to James Hill, a senior manager with Last Best, fans were forgetting the original, and better, destination for playoff memories.

“We were confused why everyone goes to 17th Avenue, when the Flames first won the Cup on Electric Avenue,” said Hill.

Home and Away and One Night Stan's should also be promoting the playoffs pretty good.

It was.. but nothing close to 2004, it doesn't take off until 2nd round. Which makes sense.

So excited to see this thread, yet so terrified. My metabolism was barely up to the task of bar food and 1600 calories of beer 3 times a week in 04. Afraid of what a long run does today, especially since I can afford more than 1600 calories of beer now. F it. Yolo. GFG.

The new Ceilis location on 17th Avenue will also be a good spot (formerly Roosevelt)

I'm confident that the 04' run took at least 5 years off my life.

Amazon had some car flags. Living in victoria it was nice to be able to get a couple! In 2 days flags will go on my ride. In 4 days they will probably be broken off and my car door will have a key mark... f'n canucks fans can hate me, but I'm flying my flag!!
