Not pronouncements of certitude. People have opinions based on what they saw and what we've been told after the fact.
Hey I didn't say not to have them.

But can't stop me from finding them pretty damn funny.

What I find funny is that people want to pronounce with certitude that NHL coaches wouldn't possibly be deceptive about injuries.

Yep ... another eye roller.

However I think being vague would have been more expected if he wanted to deceive. The fact that he came right out with "dodged a bullet" and "He's fine" is past that line, and might actually mean he's ok.

Just my opinion of course, ... not a doctor, fremulon

I don't quite have the same confidence that coaches have a line they won't cross with respect to communicating these matters to the media.

Personally, I'd find it a little less distasteful if the coach just took a position about not discussing injuries at all this time of year. Just point to the injury report which presumably teams have to disclose (which even then is far less than transparent).

I'd agree. Peters has been pretty consistent this year with dodging questions when he feels necessary. He often says he doesn't know or he hasn't heard from the doctors yet, etc. So to flat out say something definitively is a change from the norm.

I think he was woozy because he had booze in his water bottle on the bench. That's my opinion from my TV room watching it.

The fact that playoffs are a week away could also be a reason for the departure from the norm.

Why misdirect now when you don't even have a 1st round opponent locked in and the playoffs don't start for another 9 days?

Why would it matter who your opponent is? Why be deliberately obtuse about the nature of Monahan's last injury? Why is there a culture where players feel they can take advantage and deliberately target another player's injury? Why use terms like upper body and lower body?

It's the NHL.

Sam Bennett looked straight up concussed last night. I wouldn’t be rushing Sam Bennett back for useless regular season games. Kid is young and the team needs to focus on his long term health. He’s a tough kid and he’ll want to play, but the team has to be smarter here.

There's not a pro sport in the world that doesn't target the weaknesses of injured players. Maybe not persistently, and certainly in a manner that might seem incidental, but it happens everywhere in every sport.

Also, never let them see you bleed.

Never let them see you bleed.

Just so I'm clear.

There is no chance that he's not concussed, and 100% chance that Peters is lying?

Because if that's the case he sure set himself up for failure by saying Bennett will play one of the final two games. Sure that can change, but why say it if he knew for sure the guy was concussed and out medium to long term?

To deceive our future playoff opponents? To get the media off his back asking about Bennett?

Who knows for sure. But I wouldn't trust much of what Peters says publicly about any player injuries.

This isn’t hard. The only reliable evidence we have is what the medical professionals say. What the hit looked like on tv is not evidence and is basically irrelevant.

If the medical pros say he is not injured, and Bennett feels good to go then he should play. Using the eyeball test to go against what the professionals say makes no sense... why even have them?

I am sure he is fine. Anyway The proof will be in the pudding, he will not play in the playoffs if it’s a concussion issue and not resolved at that time. Although that maybe unclear right now, the Flames will not play him if it’s serious.

I remember Lombardi missed the entire playoffs back in 2004 with a concussion, I have confidence that the Flames medical staff would not risk a player’s long term well being.

Did anyone else hear Tim & Sid mention today that the Bennett injury was more serious than Peters let on?

They didn't loop back to it, just rounded it up in hockey news but I can't find anything on it. Any idea where that would've come from? Just that he's gone from 'won't miss a game' to 'back by #82'?

Practice? Peters is a NHL playoff rookie, so maybe he's trying to prepare himself for the hardcore lying that is coming up.

I didn't catch it, but to be fair Peters never said he wouldn't miss a game, just that he'd be back before the regular season ended
