A sobering read and well laid out.
The ineptitude on this one single issue should be enough for people to admit this gang of clowns should be no where near making decisions that affect every single person in this province. An utter disaster.

The PPA crapshow is what has convinced me that this NDP government should be no where near power again. Too bad it was so long ago that most people seemed to have forgotten it, even though a reminder is on our power bills every month.

I had to laugh this morning when I looked at the Calgary Herald this morning. Giant front page advertisement: “Jason Kenny is going to leave it in the ground! Notley is the only one fighting for pipelines!”.
Poor NDP getting desperate?

Yeah when you understand what happened, and i just learned all this stuff recently myself, that the level of ineptitude is unlike anything we have seen before.
Not only did they do every single thing wrong, they did it AS wrong as they could have.
Ideology baby!!

Has the NDP indicated how they actually plan to balance the budget in 4 (I think?) years like they claim? New Taxes? Or how they are going to pay for all the promises they have made this campaign? I think its closing in on $5 billion now.

PST. They just won't mention it during the campaign. It will be similar to how they didn't mention the carbon tax last campaign.

“We will fight without relent to build pipelines,” Kenney wrote in his platform introduction.
Notley also noted the issue in her platform message, telling fellow Albertans, “We’ve been through a lot over these last four years. A tough recession, a pipeline fight for the ages, and a lot in between.”

There's no way in hell it will happen. As soon as they go to borrow more $$, the province's credit rating will take another hit and those costs will go up.

PST is something this province should be considering, regardless of party. It is a consumption tax, and if it can help reduce or prevent taxation in other areas, it's something worth discussing.

The same way as the UCP - very optimistic projections for organic revenue growth.

Or go one step ahead and just get a VAT.

I hope that if that's in the NDP's plans should they win that they at least campaign on it this time!

The further this election moves along, and more so this province I'm becoming more on board with a PST. I see it as the best possible option to slow our growing debt. I'm just waiting for one of the 2 parties to be open about it.

Slow... is the unfortunate reality. At some point, Albertans will have to give up the old resource revenue teat and fix their expectations with reality.

Well that will be part of it, but even more effective?
Quit spending so much money that they do not have. Seems simple eh?

Albertans need to do the same. They have the highest consumer debt/capita (non-mortgage debt) in the country.
https://edmontonjournal.com/news/loc...nterest-survey
Perhaps the next government needs to provide subsidized financial planning services for all Albertans so that debt levels can be managed better at an individual level. Part of this could also include subsidized re-training for new industries or different veins of existing industries.

I can't imagine anything more unpopular from an electorate's standpoint. Albertans love their benefits.

Who doesn't?
But as Ralph showed, sometimes doing the unpopular but necessary thing really does work in the long run. Both in real world effectiveness as well as political popularity.
We could start by not paying hundreds of people to change light bulbs.
