I’m not sure Peters has the same expectations for Prout as he does for Giordano, though in a case where he felt either was underperforming I’d expect him to actually address it as opposed to complain to his kid about it. Just my thoughts.

Not sure where I mentioned "so many" underperforming employees either.

If you weren’t trying to insinuate that there were many underperforming employees I think you could have chosen your words a little better. But my apologies if I misinterpreted what you wrote.

In all seriousness I don’t think I was defending the union employees so much as I was being critical of a manager who seems to be struggling to find ways to get the most out of their employees

Iggy_oi is amazing, his resilience is nothing short of spectacular on this board, especially as it relates to labor issues (triggering many heads in the process).

And here we see the rare instance where the word "amazing" is not complimentary in context.

Do you have to encourage him? It's the same crap all the time. And here we have a poster that rarely posts anything, provides meaningful insight, and Iggy comes and drops another of his usual stinky deuces on it. So instead of gaining an opinion we just get more poop.

Yes I do, otherwise it would be an anti-union and anti-labor echo chamber in here and the Politics thread. And I prefer a range of viewpoints over a one-sided circle jerk.

Well great then, you may as well be encouraging Dion to continue posting his UCP commercials without any context or comment as well.

He has a right to post his opinions like everyone else in this thread. It's like reading Ozy_Flame and his anti UCP or my anti NDP posts. Variety is the spice of life and helps to foster discussion.

As a former union employee there is some truth to what he/she posted. I had a manager who told me that the time, paper work and documentation it takes to get rid of an employee was time consuming and not worth the effort. Then there's the endless grievances process that added to the difficulty.

Sounds to me like the manager’s work ethic and competence should be questioned here. I mean all of those tasks are part of their regular duties as a manager are they not? Telling your staff that even in the event they don’t perform to the companies’ expectations they won’t be disciplined because they’re manager is too lazy to do their job doesn’t sound like a very smart business practice. Just my 2 cents

Who knows, maybe there is middle ground between overly-onerous system requirements/processes in place and that guys mom's incompetence.
Edit: Maybe if the union rules weren't so ironclad they could fire this manager of alleged poor work ethic and competence.

I’ve had plenty of success severing union employees. You just need to be a good manager with a supportive corporate structure.

It has to do with the workload and pressure he was put under which didn't leave him much time to handle issues like that. Yes a fault of his employer.
At the same time the company and the union both agreed to make the the dismissal of an employee almost impossible. Unless you were caught stealing or found guilty of sexual harassment, things like work performance would always be subject to interpretation by the employer and the union.

That's the key right there. Mine didn't have that support.

A really good explanation from a labor attorney on the whole OT/banked hours thing. Should clear things up for those interested in such.

Which ones? (Genuinely curious). I’ve only seen polls showing the UCP comfortably in the lead...
I will lose some bets at work if they lose. Teach me to prognosticate I suppose...
