12-7-3 with a 1.96 GAA and a .924 SV% in 25 games with Metallurg Magnitogorsk this year. He was their backup, but still -- not bad.

Perhaps the long play to get our own Bobrovsky?
It seems smarter to sign guys who are a little older playing in Europe with great numbers than it does to draft an 18 year old and hope he becomes something in five years.

Small write up about him in the Hockey News in their future watch. Say he is still very raw, but teams like his potential.
Sounds similar to what a few were saying about Rittich when the Flames signed him.

So does this suggest anything about Gillies role in the organization now?

Good solid numbers for a 23 year old. Interesting. Maybe we can get our own Goalie bob.

Jon Gillies is a nobody. He's 25 and his AHL numbers are nothing to write home about. This year, they're appalling. I don't know if the hip injury ruined him, but he's gotten worse every year he's been a pro. Every team has their own Jon Gillies.
At this rate, Gillies will be lucky to have a career as good as Brent Krahn's, and that is far from a sure thing.

The tials and tribulations of Jack Campbell makes me pause on giving up on Jon Gillies.

Probably more likely the Flames move on from him.
However they also need to be careful, there is an emerging trend in the NHL for Euro free agents to sign NHL deals, get sent down to the AHL and then get their contracts mutually terminated because they rather go back to Europe after a month or two.
Not going to say it will happen with Zagidulin but it could. Saw it happen with Ehliz last season, but it seems to occur frequently with a lot of teams now.
