Can we please revive the Monahan isn't a #1 centre debate?!?

Monahan is still only 24. He needs to develop and work on his two way game. Most top line centres have the ability to play the 200 foot game. I'm sure he can do that and hopefully he works on that in the off-season.

For these playoffs though, I hope he finds his scoring touch and confidence back. We need him, badly.

Fun fact: with one more point, Sean Monahan will move into a tie for the most points recorded by a Flames centre in a year over the last 25 seasons.

He's been bad lately, but he is a #1 centre by every metric.

Don’t mind Love, he would rather watch the hurricanes than the flames.

I think we see our old friend Mony in game one of the 2019 playoffs, if not before.

To be a contrarian, if Monahan proves he can’t get it done for a couple of playoff runs, maybe a trade + a UFA signing to replace him could ultimately be a positive. Say in 2020 for instance, Niklas Backstrom is free and is interested in signing. Just imagine what a Monahan return could get you on top of. It’s not necessarily a crazy idea, but it’s definitely far fetched. Probably will never happen any way so it’s all moot.

James Neal makes 400k less than monahan and has TWENTY SIX fewer goals.

Jesus.

Remember when Sean Monahan scored 4 goals in 4 playoff games in 2017? How it seemed like he was the only engaged member of the Flames' top line in that series? When he, Bennett, and Versteeg were the only ones doing anything in the playoffs?

Monahan is a proven playoff performer. He rises to the challenge.

Cannot quote for some reason but to replace Monahan with a 34 year old Nicklas Backstrom in a few years...

I know tanking is frowned upon. But man if the Flames just lost a couple more games, the team could be icing a 1-2 punch of Barkov and Draisaitl. Throw Backlund onto the 3rd line and this team would’ve been a Stanley Cup champion yesterday.

Yup, there’s ways to contribute if the scoring touch has dried up. And fair enough if he’s in a scoring slump, all players experience them.

But go out and make a difference with your legs. Cause havoc on the forecheck. Explode on the backcheck. Heaven forbid throw a hit.

This floating around bobbling pucks and sauntering to the bench. Not good enough.

But then all the other draft picks change and we aren’t low enough for MT. Not quiet as easy as adding those 2 guys

One of the least successful franchises over that time frame. That's not impressive, nor are his point totals, nor are how he accumulates them

I'm glad he realizes himself now that he's quite mediocre

I don't disagree.

But he's just not that player. He's never been that player. Typically from what I'm used to seeing, guys who have never played that way usually can't just flip a switch and do that. He'll be even further out of his comfort zone than he is now.

I think after this many years, we know what we have with Monahan. He's a #1 center but he isn't a physical presence, far from it.

The Flames have paid $1.15 million per goal he has scored this season. It’s been a disastrous signing so far.

If we had Barkov / Drai and still got Chucky, we'd be Tampa tier. Honestly better

I mean he is ahead of multiple Nieuwendyk seasons, all of Savard's years, all of Conroy's years, all of Langkow's years... not to mention multiple Iginla and Fleury years.

Super mediocre, dude.

First. In. The. Conference. A slump is a slump and there are some things to worry about, but they all pale underneath the indisputable 100000000% fact that there are ZERO teams better than Calgary in the West.
