Whataboutism aside, really though, which is it? Some supporters are saying they have this great comprehensive platform, others are saying they don’t have enough to hold a debate. I’m curious to know why there seems to be that disconnect even amongst supporters.
I don't understand why the debate can't be moved to a time where all parties are willing to show up. Makes no sense to continue with a debate when not all parties will be there.

There's going to be a candidates forum in my region (Livingstone/McLeod) next Wednesday in Nanton. From what I was told, this was a date that everyone agreed upon.

I guess everyone feels same eh? I must have missed the memo.

But way to slip in whataboutism I guess, though i suspect it’s cancelled out by missing the sarcasm.

Thanks to Dion for the summary of the UCP platform thus far. Still shows to me like its essentially a 'rollback' campaign with a heck of a lot of money being spent on lobbying and wasted on a constitutional challenge that is destined to lose. Very meagre ideas and thin on substance for a party that wants to govern Alberta. Smells like entitlement.

A platform is a platform. There’s not really a lot of “feeling” that goes into whether it’s comprehensive or not. It factually is or isn’t.

Why do you think Captain is wrong? What parts of the platform are you looking for them to shore up before any debates are held?

I think that the line of “we have to wait for the platform” is a cop out. How can you be out campaigning if you haven’t got a platform? How do you answer questions on people’s doorsteps? It’s laughable really. I think the public forums are important and the trend of candidates skipping these is disturbing. On a doorstep to an individual, you can say anything and no one else knows. My UPC candidate told me that they’re pro-choice and in favour of LGBTQ rights and GSAs. Would they say that in a public forum? I hope so, but there’s only one way to know.

And if I was Schweitzer, I would show up with a crowd to this march today. “Oh cool, all of you are marching with me to my office? This is great!” Not only would that be an impressive statement, but more importantly it might put help stop using these kids sexuality as a political football.

Former Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall has some opinions on Notley's "leadership" in regards to pipelines.

Quote:
“Rachel Notley’s quote about Alberta being ’embarrassing,’ which I can’t get over to this day . . . sends the wrong message to everyone,” said Wall, referring to Notley saying in September 2015 — just five months after becoming premier — Alberta was like an “embarrassing cousin that no one wants to talk about.”

“She damaged Alberta’s brand.” That was bad but it got worse.

“I have been a bit bemused, hearing from Premier Notley and her description of herself and her government as the champions of the oil and gas sector now, and specifically in relation to a pipeline,” said Wall.

“I was the premier of Saskatchewan when she first was elected and I got to tell you, Alberta was MIA on KXL,” he said, referring to his push to get TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta to the U.S. Gulf Coast approved.

“Then she supported (Prime Minister Justin) Trudeau when he walked away from the Northern Gateway pipeline. Remember the court ruling around Gateway was very similar to the ruling around Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain (TMX) pipeline, that has it in pause mode, basically saying more consultation was needed.

“And, finally, on the NEB midstream changes that killed Energy East, (Notley) expressed some mild disappointment but it was very muted. Here was this pipeline that would basically be the new National Dream, which is overstating the fact a bit, but it basically would have helped Canada move toward energy independence and lessen the need for us to import oil from Saudi Arabia and other places, and benefit Alberta, Saskatchewan and all of Canada, and her response was muted and whispered.”

Wall says she’s essentially been missing in action against Bills C-69 and C-48 as well.

It doesn’t take a picture from a few years ago to show how truly anti-oil Notley is. Just look at her appointments and lack of activity. She is actively attempting to sewer the industry.

To be fair, at best, she's passively attempting to sewer the industry.

For my next Common Ground YYC podcast, I am doing an Alberta election edition. I'd like to talk to a few undecided Calgarians and talk through the issues, what will affect their decision, and what they hope for in the next government. Soliciting your help - who should I talk to? Anyone on here interested?

Not sure you'll find undecideds in this thread. 😉

But more seriously, look forward to hearing it, enjoying your podcast so far!

I think this is a cool idea - not sure when it could be done, but I can't see Alberta not doing this some day if the autonomous driving trend continues to grow.

This is such a ridiculous position. Nobody sitting as the Premier of Alberta could possibly be anti-oil given that industry drives pretty much everything that goes on here.

If you are correct it means that office means pretty much nothing in terms of leadership and governance. If that were true, power mongers like Jason Kenney wouldn't spend years seeking to be Premier.

I have no idea what you are saying here....anti-oil cant want positions of power to further their agenda?

What?

I feel like there's a huge amount of undecideds actually. It feels like a lot of people are soft supporters of whoever they are leaning toward because they have misgivings. I haven't seen much for polling recently, so that is just anecdotal, but quite a few people lean toward one party or another but aren't sure because of an issue or two.

I'm somewhat undecided, and would be interested, although I obviously have my biases. I'm not sure if that is "undecided enough" for what you're after.

^ That's the beauty of the AP, they promise spending on everything and also balanced budgets. In my opinion, it hurts their credibility because it means I don't know what they would actually do if by some miracle they won.

I am very undecided in this election, no interest in going on a podcast but I would be very interested to listen once its done!
