Rhett works 3 hours a day for 8 months a year. $50k seems reasonable.

A year ago maybe even 6 months, this (Boomer leaving) would've bothered me much more. Now I'm not sure how much I'd care.
I've always enjoyed Boomer's humor, especially with Walker, Pinder and Rhett. But the last 6 months or so the show has been pretty much unlistenable for me. I still do listen, just not the whole show, and I most definitely don't like it anymore. It's become about 75% talk about raisins, pies, movies, etc. 10% some charity or sponsor guest, then if we're lucky, the rest is sports.
I realize we're not in a huge sports market here and it's tough to fill in 3-4 hours, but they can do much better. I do hope Boomer isn't leaving, I'd rather they just step up the game and talk more sports and leave more of the crap out.

Apparently The Morning Show pulls in some massive ratings. Boomer himself has said this and even Torontonian Elliotte Friedman said as much. So 50k seems low to me personally, but I have hard time believing a bunch of radio guys are pulling in the 100k range. Maybe halfway between the 2?

I have no idea how radio ratings work, but a quick google found this.
http://assets.numeris.ca/Downloads/2...plineRadio.pdf
I could be completely wrong, but if reading it correctly, the ratings don't exactly scream massive.

On a couple of shows I recall a situation where a number of $80k came up for something give or take a bit. They were comparing how much some athlete was making on a per game basis and then Boomer joked that it was a years salary for some people in the room, but if your Rhett Warrener than its double that + all the time off and vacation perks etc.
If I had to ball park it I would say Warrener makes $150k a year give or take a little bit. Millionaire athletes don't need to wake up at that hour and deal with some aspects of that stuff for $50k a year.
It's a gig good enough to pay enough expenses for him and kill enough time with flexibility to boot.

Not sure how much that corresponds to the Morning Show exactly, but however you slice it, that does sound pretty impressive.
With that entire show being all ads or product placements, I wouldn’t be surprised that they made a killing. Personally, I think there’s a lot of jealousy with the time off and $$$ that Warrener gets, so I wonder if that has anything to do with Boomer’s lethargy and attitude towards the show sometimes.

Meh... I love my job. A lot of my job is getting to travel around to play & talk about hockey. Every one always says they'd kill to have my job but all they see is the "fun things for a living rather than punching in and out of a job." They don't see every thing else I do.
For me, at the end of the day of the day it's still a job. I still have a boss and have to do things I hate doing. For Boomer he has to wake up probably around 3 in the morning, he has to plan out bits, he has to "be on" when he is on the air. It's more than just showing up and talking about fun things.

They crush M25-54. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to see the full CGY ratings:

I did some searching on the net about radio DJ salaries and found articles that suggested salaries ranging for $40k to seven figures.
This was the most relevant article I saw - only art of the article is visible, but it suggests this particular DJ in Winnipeg was doing very well

I thought it might be okay after pincer left. Nah, I almost never hear hockey talk in the , Morning when I tune in.

Oh I don’t doubt it has its disadvantages. But after 6 hours, he’s basically done for the day as well, so that’s what, 30 hours for a typical work week? Then you throw in all the perks and the extras and people you get to meet, it’s ultimately a pretty awesome gig. I’d take it over a paramedic or a truck driver or retail. Definitely beats boring job or a high pressure/stressful environment. Heck, Boomer’s gig definitely beats out Pat Steinberg’s gig. Pat probably doesn’t even sleep with the sheer amount of hours he puts in to the station.

Most radio people (rule of thumb) prepare 1-2 hours for every hour they are on air. I don't get the feeling Rhett does any prep though.

Well what do you call eating pie for dessert the night before? Or putting socks on in the morning?

From what I’ve been able to put together through the years boomers wife has a pretty good gig as a pharmacist. This might be a work, life, balance thing as he does have 3 fairly young kids. He also recently visited and had the guy on from heart fit clinic maybe a 3 o’clock in the morning wake up is no longer healthy. Could also be the Rob Kerr affect to leave radio altogether for something else. Someone mentioned on his Twitter as well he is going into a contract negotiation, maybe an issue there? Remember, love them or hate them Matt & Eric walked away from Jack FM (allegedly) because of contract negotiation issues.

I think Boomer and Rhett would be good in a podcast format, with fewer restrictions on time, promotions, and topics discussed.

I personally wouldn't call it unlistenable, and I still listen every morning on my drive to work. But I agree that the quality has taken a hit since Pinder moved to afternoons.
It's funny how replacing him with someone over 10 years Pinder's junior somehow made the show feel older..probably because his replacement (who I like) loves staying home, crushing food and movies as much as Boomer & Rhett do. As opposed to the contrast of fun-loving, "patio beers" Pinder bringing the energy and getting on their nerves to bring out the chirps and liven things up. That and his obsessive analytics side kept the topic on sports a lot more than they do now, man those guys love food.
I'm definitely a lot more excited for the Pinder & Steinberg show on my drive home, easily the better and more entertaining show of the two now, in my opinion.

Boomer = Shaggy
Warrener = Scooby
Pinder = Velma
With Velma gone, it's all just food and hijinx for Shaggy and Scoob.

I stopped listening to the morning show a few weeks ago and started listening to podcasts during my commute. I find I'm not missing it. I do still tune into the afternoon show on the way home.
