I suspect the much more likely situation is that Gaudreau is putting a tonne of pressure on himself, feeling like he has to be doing more, and as a result is carrying the puck too much, for too long, and not finding the lanes and openings quickly enough.

At the dome I made a point to focus on only Monahan for a number of shifts last night to try and get a read on him, and he quite honestly is just allowing defenders to box him out with next to no resistance right now. The battle isn't there, and it's more like what you would see playing October hockey. Just not enough compete at all and this is the biggest reason that Johnny can't find openings or is being forced to hold the puck too long.
Monahan needs to find his game again for this line to come back around or it is going to be way to easy for defenders to key on Johnny the rest of the way. He isn't a player the plays "slow". If guys were getting open, he would be finding them. The body of work throughout his career to date fully supports that.

That wasn’t my intention, what I was doing was pointing out how ludicrous it is to say as a flames fan, especially this season that, that you would rather watch the Leafs, Hurricanes, and Colorado over the flames. I highly question if Love is actually a fan of this team or just comes in here to take giant ####s on Monahan whenever he can. I’m guessing the latter. Maybe Monahan stole his girl or something because he is damn near obsessed with him.

Can we stop questioning people on whether they are a fan of a team if they post something negative?
People care enough about the Flames to take part in a forum and voice their opinion, that tells me they care and are passionate.
Just because they have a negative view of a particular subject regarding the team, doesn't mean they aren't a fan, I think its actually the opposite.
Personally I use the forum to air out my frustration when I see something I don't like. Everybody has different uses for it. It all gets magnified when we are 2 weeks away from the playoffs.
Monahan's play is a legit concern.

I agree, but I also don't think that Monahan's and Lindholm's recent struggles completely absolves Gaudreau either. It makes perfect sense if his line mates are struggling to find openings or to fight through checking that he is also feeling added pressure to carry the puck more and longer. It's a group issue, and one that I think requires some small adjustments to correct.

You're describing Monahan at all times aren't you? On a rip or in a slump.

Lol, so when someone only comes in here to post negative things about one specific player and then proceeds to say he would rather watch other teams with inferior records no one is supposed to call that out? Love would rather Monahan continue to suck to feed his agenda. Hmmm oh ya I forgot you are also on team negative

I think other than last night Gaudreau has been fine through the top lines cold streak. I’ve seen multiple golden chances he’s set up that haven’t been converted, and most of his mistakes were a result of trying to do too much himself, not a lack of effort.
He was bad last night tho.

Well said.
He wasn't good last night, but I don't doubt his compete. I think he'd given up a bit on that empty net goal against, no intensity, but for the most part Gaudreau is money to care in a game. Lately I think he's trying too hard, or trying to do too much.
Monahan is Monahan. I wish he played with more fire, but he never will. This year for the first 2/3 of the season he looked better handling the puck than ever, and his shot is always there, but he'll never wow anyone for his perceived compete level.

The team is second overall...anyone constantly negetive is either a troll has some major issues.
Constructive "concern" is one thing
The ####ing Sharks have lost six straight, Flames lost one game.
It's the same clowns that were crying and telling us we are getting swept by Vegas in round one and the Sharks were about to run the table.

Yeah last night after missing probably his 4th or 5th sure goal from the last few games, the zoomed in on him going to the bench and I was surprised with his composure. Any other player would be losing it, or at best be giving the “look to the sky” type reactions. He’s a calm guy and doesn’t seem to let much bother him. It can be a great quality, and probably is what makes him the player he is, but as a fan you just want to see more fire.
As a coach, I worry less about a player like that than one who rides the emotion a bit too much (like Gaudreau can do), because that outward emotion can have a negative drain on yourself and yourteam if it’s too much. It’s not better or worse, but one tends to require more mental attention to keep them pointed in the right direction.

The Flames would be better off sprinkling James Neal's minutes over the other 11 forwards and go with a 7D 11F lineup.
Neal played 14:18 last night and Derek Ryan played 12.
Derek Ryan has 9 points in his last 12 games.
Andrew Mangiapane played 10:57 last night coming off a 3 game goal scoring streak.
Giving Neal minutes comes at the detriment to the rest of the roster.

Oh, that's all the guys on NHL radio on Sirius...all they could talk about two weeks or so ago on one of my "long drives" was how wonderful the Sharks were and how they were going to rip first from the Flames in short order.
To be fair, I'd rather the Flames got someone other than VGK in the first round to get them 'warmed up' to playoff hockey.

I get it but they aren't without warts. Without a counter opinion all we will be left with is the gifs. Kind of boring.

I missed last night's game, but can think of multiple good chances Johnny has set up in other recent games, they're just not getting finished.
Monahan puts a couple of those in and we're not talking about this right now.

Wait? Which player has warts? and is the team mandating that he wear his sandals in the shower?
Can't have a warts epidemic heading into playoffs...

I don't think anyone has claimed that any of the Flames players are without warts, nor do I think this is the sort of counter opinion that dino7c is targeting. I could be wrong, but I suspect his frustration stems more from this sort of extreme nonsense:

The idea that Monahan easily allows guys to box him out, (besides this slump) is bordering on lunacy.
You don't score as many goals as he does, from where he scores them if you're being pushed around and boxed out.
