I missed most of the game, but what was up with Gaudreau and Monahan? Gaudreau had 9 shots but no points. Was he robbed, or were some of his shots low percentage opportunities? Was he trying to set people up, or just shooting?
Monahan had zero shots and no points. Is he getting opportunities and just not able to shoot?
Monahan is just struggling right now. Missing the net from the slot which usually never happens. Gaudreau was robbed today while Lindholm was invisible.

One of the things that pisses me off most about Sportsnet is the lack of dedicated postgame coverage to our specific game.
Thankfully the Flames themselves have picked up the slack with Parker and Sutter doing it normally (Alanna Nolan and Torie Peterson tonight).
Meanwhile the Vegas broadcast is still doing a post game show, they have Tanguay on dissecting all aspects of the game right now. SNET is such a disappointment in every category, outside of the Flames broadcast selections IMO.
TSN did the exact same thing...straight to Sportscentere. Vegas and most if not all, US regional broadcasts thst aren’t tied into a national highlight show, which is what TSN and Sportsnet want to be able to get viewership spilling over. Plus it was a national broadcast from the 2nd period forward tonight.

Gaudreau -> his shots were mostly quality. Good chances. Subban stoned him.
Monahan kept getting opportunities to shoot and then his shots were interfered with by sticks or he missed the net.

Massive win. 3M was unbelievable tonight, best darn line in the game, absolutely dominant, completely carried this team to victory. 4th line was also quite good as usual and Mangiapane is blossoming in front of us. 3rd line was decent, nothing special. Defensemen were solid, very well balanced minutes. Rittich was good enough, didn’t really have much of a chance on any of the goals tonight.
1st line though needs a lifeline right now, wow do they need help. Johnny Gaudreau was easily the best of player his line tonight as usual, but the other 2 are listless, especially Monahan who is just a disaster right now. I almost can’t stand watching him play right now, every other play he makes ends up helping the other team. His minutes need to be dialed back because it’s hard to watch. I actually feel bad for Gaudreau right now, he’s trying very very hard, but Monahan is dead weight and the opposition double teaming Gaudreau every game just shuts down that line.

Monahan's game isn't really built around skating and I think that really limits his effectiveness against tight checking because he's so easy to limit if you just pay enough attention to him. That's my opinion at least.
Gaudreau was double teamed all night. I thought he had a strong game and I don't even blame him for the net front giveaway. I didn't like his coverage on the Pirri goal though, not sure where his brain was at as he could have easily erased that.

I dunno if "nine shots" really describes his game tonight but I can think of at least two shots that were very dangerous, a quick one off a Lindholm drop pass in the high slot that Subban made a nice save on, and an absolute beauty setup by Tkachuk that should have absolutely gone on.

Monahan did have a couple chances. I think he flat out missed the net on one, and the Dman blocked his shot on the other. I'd like to see him demoted down the lineup; I think it's in the team's best interest.

Gaudreau looked slightly frustrated tonight, taking more low percentage shots than usual. But he’s playing with tons of jump and it’s only a matter of time before he gets going.
Monahan looks lost. He’s getting less opportunities and not capitalizing on the few he does.
Still don’t think you should break that top line up. They will figure it out.

Yeah, and as I mentioned earlier they are drawing top shutdown pairs and lines from the opposition...opening things up for other lines.

He’s played with Gaudreau, what, 4 years now almost exclusively? So take Johnny away from his natural linemate after a bad stretch of games, and that shock to JG is for the betterment of the team? Give me a break.
When Peters today said that these are the natural lines, that despite Lindholm going cold as well, they are all better together, but suddenly Monahan gets boooted? For Backlund, who plays an entirely different type of style, not nearly the style thst works for a small guy like JG?

Thank you boys. After the day I've had with my dog, a Flames win helps a bunch. She's currently back home but will have to go back tomorrow.
I sincerely want to thank everyone for the well wishes and Thanks. Means a lot. We're a weird family on this forum...but we're still family. Thank you all again.
Yay, glad to hear! She's probably so happy to be home with you. Good luck tomorrow!
Seems good to me that all the defensive focus is on our first line. I dont think it was an accident that 3m had so many points. All I want it for them to keep it up. Teams will adjust eventually and our first line will get hot again.

Thought Monahan had at least 1 shot. But regardless, he and Lindholm were pretty invisible tonight to downright bad at times. Gaudreau was on an island by himself. He had jump, was getting good shots off, but Subban had his number.
Whatever is going on with Monahan, he better figure it out soon because he can’t play like this in playoffs or we’re doomed. A #1 center needs to play like a #1 center in the playoffs because they play the bulk of the minutes and losing 1/3 of the game all series long just spells disaster.
