If Monahan is hurt - and he’s sure playing like it - wish we would just shut him down until the playoffs. Having a black hole on Johnny’s line is just a waste. Monahan’s injuries might not completely heal, but at least they won’t get worse.

question for you guys.
how come every player since the all star break gets criticized for poor play, except Monahan?
a lot of people seem to be giving him the "he must be hurt" get out of jail free card that nobody else receives.
edit: just like the post put up right before mine.

^ Recent history (last season) with a similar level of play, causing deja vu
But yeah, my feeling is he's in a rut like the rest of them

When the tough gets going.....ugh. Maybe this team needs a couple bigger bodies up front. Someone that goes to the net and creates space in the slot by taking a dman with him.
Good home stand should get things back on track. But it will be a disappointment if they don't win the conference after leading it comfortably for so long.

This might be controversial but winning 7 in a row was a lot more fun than losing 4 in a row

It was evident early in the 2nd period they weren't going to score a goal in this one and when I checked the final score the final result was as expected.
Some people here think it's a good time to slump before the playoffs but there's no guarantee they get out of this funk as it's now three straight seasons they have played their worst hockey of the year in March so as far as I'm concerned every game they continue to play like this is another nail in their coffin as they need to get away from playing this loser style of hockey ASAP.

I know folks feel like this is an alarmist view after a small bump in the road here with the losing streak.
However, i can't help but think there's a correlation between this streak and the fact that games have gotten more physical and tighter checking. I've noticed almost every game this past week or so, teams are ALWAYS finishing their check on Gaudreau or at least shoving him once a shift even when he doesn't have the puck.
Are they playing more on the perimeter because they are in a slump or because of the playoff style game being played? Perhaps it is a bit both, but this core has shown a willingness to shy away from these battles in past years. It's on them to change the narrative, not about fans giving them the benefit of the doubt here.

^ They won 7 under the same circumstances
I kind of got shat on for saying this, but I told people this was going to be a tough week. It has been. It will get better. Just hope its sooner rather than later.

A team shooting 4% five on five with a PDO of 93% is going to be fine.

Neal was the team’s bad lightning rod. Bad luck. Bad play. Bad contract. Bad legs. And he absorbed it all with a lovable smile. Like a reverse Dementor.
Now he’s gone and everyone’s bad.

I tend to agree. With numbers like that things will even out, hopefully soon. I will say, though, last night's game was one of the recent few where it seemed it wasn't just bad luck going on. Definitely felt like there was a few too many passengers in this game.

Flames had the worst travel schedule in NHL history in February...then a two game home stand. Maybe they need some rest, practice time?

What were the Flames advance stats before the All-Star game? When they were scoring goals and getting rewarded with favorable results?

I think quite honestly, teams have ramped up their play a notch or two, and the Flames haven't quite yet.
Plus, I think the biggest thing is the opposition has more or less figured out how to play against the Flames. The team hasn't adjusted to that yet, so hopefully the coaching staff figures this out and switches things up a bit.
For example, everyone has taken time and space away from the top line, and is protecting the middle of the ice in the D zone with their lives. There's absolutely no space to play for these guys, except in the low-danger perimeter. They've been laying the body on these guys, taking space away, and sticks and bodies in the way of every shot attempt.
They'll just have to play through it and figure it out, because that's what playoff hockey is all about. It's not going to be easy.

The Flames have 54% of the scoring chances and 52% of the high danger chances in the last four games.
If they're perimeter, so are the teams that are beating them.
