The Flames looked absolutely GASSED after the first period. Sluggish and a step behind the play most of the game, they chased the puck, made poor passing decisions constantly and just never were really in it. Rittich was excellent (with one boo-boo which he covered up). No complaint there.

Johnny? Looks like he needs to catch up on sleep (which he's doing on the ice sometimes).
Monny? Doesn't look engaged and is simply too slow making moves.
Chucky? Good; needs to learn when/where to pick his fights.
Zebulon? OK tonight, but not great.

A group lacking in confidence. A win tonight in a tough game might have put some swagger back in their step....

Will they be able to beat Arizona? Who knows.

I absolutely agree there's plenty of time left and a lot of reasons to be optimistic, but our control over our destiny is slipping away quickly.

SJ is 3 points back with a game in hand now. They win that, and their game against us and we're out of the driver's seat and we are suddenly facing Vegas in round 1.
So what Sharks have to keep first place after that, it's not like Sharks arent going to stop losing games suddenly.

Yeah, the Flames are much better this season and their grasp on a playoff spot is a lot better thanks to the West being a whole lot weaker and their own much better start.

But, for the second consecutive year, Gaudreau and Monahan have seen their offense almost completely dry up in late February and into March. The team is in a better spot but its drivers are performing a similar disappearing act to what we saw last year. With Monahan, we know it was injury-related last year, but I have no idea what the cause is this year.

For Gaudreau -- remember when he was on pace for 120 points earlier this season? That's dipped down to 102 and it's continuing to fall. Last year, Gaudreau was on pace for 98 points late in February and wound up with just 84, scoring just 5 goals in his last 23 games.

It's worrying that we're seeing this dip in production for another consecutive year.
Flames would have been a lock for the playoffs with 89 points by February last season too. They have a dominant record Vs. the East this season.

FIRST THREE GAME LOSING STREAK OF THE SEASON

this is NOTHING like last season

Every team but Tampa has slumped this year

Not only this, but it was the defender who was boxing Tkachuk out, right into Fluery’s vicinity. I think that needs to be considered when reviewing these goals.
Why don’t our defence men start leaning on guys so they make even the slightest contact with our goalies, every time the opposing team is taking a shot. That way, goaltender interference

If it's that egregious, the players involved should know right away. MAF and the players didn't react, because it was a fine play. But coach got to look at replays and think about it, then put his bid in. A lot of challenges are rather delayed now and used more as a hail mary tactic to try and change the game in their favor on the chance that one of the refs can construe what they see as an offence, rather being used to enforce the rulebook on blatant plays.

It's becoming frickin' balogna.
And I'm shocked that the GM's haven't discussed this at their pow-pow beneath the palm trees. At least, I haven't seen any reports about them seeking to scale back the stupid, contrived challenges.

Well Engelland scored the game winner so.. you would think there is some love lost. Past history with the flames is irrelevant in this case.

Second three game losing streak of the season. The other one has a fourth game tacked onto it.

Counting OT or SO losses, this is the 4th 3 game losing streak.

I don't like the NHL app.

Had the pleasure of being at the game tonight. Absolute full marks to the Golden Knights and their fans. The building was rocking from start to finish.

Game definitey had a playoff-type atmosphere. Really could've gone either way, and i felt that the Flames carried the play for a lot of it. Definitely laksidasical on the power play, and that non-call really should have been a goal. The Flames deserve an explanation for that one.

Bring on Arizona tomorrow.

How they can't agree that it's detracting from the game is beyond me.

I'm honestly tired of celebrating, feeling a palpable shift in a game, to sitting around waiting several minutes to find out it was all for nothing. There's confusion, and there is disruption in flow of everything. Players are pissed, coaches are pissed. All because a coach/ref may or may not be able to see something on an ipad screen, and could've gone either way.

The borderline stuff needs to go the way of the on ice call, and the overturns only made for the obvious and blatant offences. Otherwise why have the call on the ice to begin with, doesn't mean anything now. If they can't determine what it is in the first seconds of looking at it, stick with the call you already made.

I still haven't forgiven Fleury for 2004 World Juniors

Just watched the game on PVR. A few takes:

1. The officiating was brutal.
2. The goaltender interference challenge is wrecking the game.
3. First line should be reunited.
4. Monahan is struggling but some of the comments on here are silly. He does not need to sit.
5. Sam where are you man?
6. I was concerned about the so called heavy game that VGK plays and that they might dominate us physically over a seven game series. I am no longer concerned about that.
7. Nice game by Rittich. Thought he looked very confident.

The flames look useless offensively, and pretty meh defensively.

They look like they are wilting as tge games get tougher.

I am preparing myself for a short playoff run. I don't see this group having the ability to find another gear, especially as the games get tighter and more physical.

Another positive: I loved the check Giordano laid out on Reaves, knocking his helmet off in the process.

Here's the goalie interference call, and what I think is the most damning part of it.

Tkachuk is outside the crease when Fleury reaches the knob of his stick out and in between Tkachuk and Schmidt. He wedges the stick in then sells it hard.
