There is talk of Arsenal following a Dortmund/Sevilla model of buying young talent cheapish and then, if necessary, selling at a healthy profit to be competitive yet self-sustaining. It seems this model would also suit Celtic. The SPL is never going to provide enough broadcast revenue to take them to then next level and their current piecemeal approach doesn't seem to be working.
You are right, as has been the case for decades now, and the gap is only widening, there isn't a ton of money in TV because it's a national only interest in the league, and only two or three teams witb much a hope year to year. Players won't go there as it won't raise their stock if they have continental or EPL dreams, and the quality suffers, and around in circles you go.

As mentioned, Celtic were starting to bleed money before Rogers came in, especially with Newco toiling in the lower division still. He came in and did what Lennon and Oneil couldn't, consistent success and multiple trophies, domestically. They sold Dmebele for a tidy sum of $25m, and some other turnovers. Rogers wanted money for players so that they aren't losing to Red Imps in CL qualifying matches, but was rejected.
Before or just around when the Premier Leauge was formed, there was a lot of talk about bringing Celtic and Rangers into the new EPL. But it would decimate Scottish soccer otherwise. And not work for other reasons. But they are a decent size club that can, and outside of Rangers and occasionally Hearts, there aren't many large markets to be attractive to sponsors.

So yeah, win the league, cup, league cup, and do your best to catch lightning in a bottle on the right day, to make Rod Stewart weep on the sideline every few years and collect some group stage CL money or get really lucky and make it through a knockout stage round. Find some young talent, groom them, get them into Europe for a year, to be showcased if nothing else, and then sell them off while stock is high.

So City don't have Fernandinho and Laporte, and Bournemouth respond with....about 15% possession nearly an hour in. Way to give it a go lol.

Yeah....there is still a substantial gulf in quality there.

Yeah but as we've seen this year City without Fernandinho are not the same team, and Laporte clearly their best defender. I just don't get such an absurdly negative approach, it's not like they're in a relegation fight and are worried about goal differential. They are safe and at home, might as well try a little.

Good day for United coming out on the right side of five fantastic goals and getting a bit of help from the officials at Wembley who helped Spurs to a tie.

Suddenly Spurs are back in the mix and is gone from three fighting for one spot to four fighting for two.

Liverpool are just so creatively limp in midfield there's no shot they'll be able to score passing through you, so when they press isn't working or the other team nullifies it, Liverpool are basically a Mourinho team, pump it long and hope something works. Pressure really mounts of Klopp now because progressing through UCL looks unlikely based off recent form. Gonna be interesting to see if he cracks or not.

Creatively inhibited in midfield you say? well guess I don’t need to look at the box score to know Henderson didn’t play.

Pochettino has been given a two game ban for the “incident” after the Burnley game. It seems pretty harsh, but it makes me really want to know what was said. I realize that we’ll never find out, but I can’t help but be curious.

So, no Poch for us against Southampton this weekend and against Liverpool at the end of the month.

Should probably book your taxes for April fools then.

Wow, apparently FIFA has refused to freeze Chelsea's transfer ban while the appeal is heard. The irony that FIFA, with all of their corruption, are taking the hard line approach on a rule-breaker is rather amusing.
