They made the mistake. Not Tavares.
Fans can be butt-hurt all they want, but the only one who gains from the distraction of directing anger at Tavares are the people who mismanaged the franchise during his time there.

Fair, but the fans owe Tavares nothing either, and are well within their right to boo the crap out of him and let him know how they feel. I think it's fantastic seeing the fans so passionate. It made the atmosphere electric for last night's game.

To be honest chanting "where's your jammies" is just priceless. In a perfect world, every arena would chant that every time Tavaras touches the puck.

Only Avery would chalk up not getting arrested in the city you play in an accomplishment. LOL

No, not his responsibility to maximize assets... but he could have not been a lying #######.
Panarin at least had enough class to declare his intentions to explore free agency well before the trade deadline

Hahaha! That's a high bar. How many NHL teams can proudly claim that their roster captain has never been arrested?
Just ridiculous.

Avery thinks anyone that doesn't publicly refer to a another guy's girlfriend as "sloppy seconds" is frickin' Sidney Poitier.

Save yourselves. I'll stay behind and listen to his long winded ramblings on NHL Network radio.

Plus it would help us keep tabs on jammies.
Hes really old and has a tendency to wander off.

NYI fans embarrassed themselves IMO.
Tavares gave that organization everything he had and they didn't think to hire competent management until they were at risk of losing him? Boo hoo- maybe they should have built a team around him if they wanted him to stay.

Amazing response from the fans! Nassau has always been rowdy people who take issue need to grow a pair, old time hockey with a new age problem.
At the end of the day he said all the right things and then left.
Don't tell me if Iginla pulled the same you wouldn't hate him too!
Good for the Isles gives them something to rally over.
Tavares picked the forbidden doughnut of Toronto, live with the consequences

The Islanders are the #1 team in the Metropolitan Division. I am quite sure their fans have no reason whatsoever for embarrassment.

Glad this thread went the way it did, I worried it may be the same mindset as most of the Canadian (aka Toronto) networks that were saying how horrible and ridiculous it was pregame, Isles fans should be ashamed, etc..like cut it out, no-one tried to attack him or anything. It's pro sports, it's what happens when a star bolts in his prime, and it made for a fun atmosphere. The networks' Maple Leafs bias was showing big-time pre-game (though after the game they seemed to come around and admit it ended up being a fun atmosphere with creative chants)

Did you see that video those fans released? One of the cringier things I have seen in a long time. "You were a role model to our kids and our captain! Turns out it was all just an act." Good grief.
If you're so bothered by John Tavares leaving via free agency that you feel the need to bring plastic snakes to the game and toss them on the ice or to throw a jersey at the guy then yeah, that's embarrassing.

I'm not offended in the slightest by their reaction, I just think it's all very cringe worthy and embarrassing. Their team is doing great, no need to release a video crying like a bunch of babies because Tavares said he wanted to stay and then didn't. Like, get over it that's pro sports.

I think the most embarrassing thing is Toronto's mayor tweeting about John Tavares Day to make sure his feelings aren't too hurt.
I wish he got even more stuff thrown at him to be honest
