Had two Iginla jerseys as a kid. He scored a goal and an assist in the first game I ever went to, a 4-1 win over L.A. in April 2009. Will never forget seeing the Tanguay goal he set up in the Heritage Classic.
Truly a special player. Never seen anyone else like him. His #12 will forever remain with distinction, not just in the rafters of the Saddledome, but in my heart.

I find it amazing that almost every Flames fan has a unique and awesome Iginla story. Here’s mine:
I think it was 2010 or 2011, can’t remember for sure but it was definitely in the Brent Sutter 9th place every year era. My buddy and I were kids and decided we would make signs and bring them to the Flames/Oilers game. One said “Iginla for Prime Minister” and the other said “Iginla’s Better than Gretzky”. We went down to the glass for warmups and waited for the team to come on the ice. Back then there was a gap between the glass instead of the curve we have now, so when Iginla walked by I shouted “Jarome you’re better than Gretzky” between the glass. Iggy started laughing and when he stepped on the ice he turned to look at us and we held up the signs. He laughed again and then went on with his warmup as usual. The Flames ended up winning that game 6-0 or 6-1, and Iginla has a hat-trick. After the game we went and waited for the players to come out. When Jarome drove out we held the signs up again. He drove up to us, rolled down his window, and talked to us for a while. He didn’t agree that he was better than Gretzky but he said he appreciated the compliments. He then signed our jerseys (we didn’t even ask, he told us to give him the jerseys) and as he drove off he gave us a honk.
He was an absolute class act to me in the only time I ever met him and I will never forget that memory. I have nothing but respect for Iggy. That night he solidified his spot as my all-time favourite player. I can’t wait to be at the Dome on Saturday. I’ll be wearing my signed Iginla jersey for the second time since that night. The only other time I wore it was his return game when he was with Boston.

I am so excited for Saturday night, haven’t looked forward to going to the Dome this much since Game 6 against Vancouver in 2015. As soon as the announcement was made I asked my Mother to go with me (lucky enough to not have made plans for that game). She absolutely adores Jarome and has been talking about going to this game to everyone she knows, she absolutely cannot wait.
Excited to be there to properly thank my favourite player, and share the experience with my Mother who made me the fan I am today.

I hope everyone wears their Iginla jerseys on Saturday regardless if they're going to the game or not. Mar 2 should be forever known as Jarome Iginla Jersey day in Calgary.

I'm sure I've shared my Iginla story before, but here goes.
It was his rookie year, and I was eating dinner with my family at Japanese Village, sitting at the same table as Sandy McCarthy and his family. I was fanboying like crazy, even though you could tell Sandy just wanted to have dinner in peace with his family (granted, I was 11 years old). As I can barely contain myself for sitting at the same table as Sandy, the rest of the team walks in, surprised to see Sandy, and greet him happily. Again, you could tell Sandy wanted to crawl into a hole.
So at this point, I'm even more amped up, and excitable. My dad and John (owner of Japanese Village) are good friends, so John comes over to me and asks if I want to meet the team. I don't recall exactly what I said, but the next thing I know, my sister and I are in with the rest of the team like a dirty shirt. My eyes are big as saucers and I'm sure I was sputtering meeting everyone. I remember most being very pleasant, but 2 stood out for entirely different reasons. Fleury and Iginla. This isn't about Fleury, but I remember him being really obnoxious, arrogant, and dismissive. Iginla couldn't have been more gracious. He was so kind and nice, and patient as I sputtered talking to him. He took the time to talk to me more so than any of the others, and I remember his smile and laugh like it was yesterday. He just seemed so genuinely happy to be talking to me.
He made a life long fan that night, and I'm so happy I got to watch him grow up and play with the Flames. He's the reason my kid wears number 12, although that's changing next year, as he has found his own idol of Gaudreau. Lol

So many great Iggy moments. Very difficult to list in one post so maybe the best way is just to add to the thread thoughts as they come.
Ok first one: my favourite call by Bob Cole was in a game in SJ in the 2004 playoffs and Iggy had a breakaway and Cole says “And here comes Jarome Iginla, in on goal all alone, of all people!!”
“Of all people”. Loved that.

Man, can you imagine him at his prime on the RW of our top line now?
AC, that video is amazing, they should just literally play that at the tribute for 30min. Watching him just beat people both on the scoreboard and quite literally in some of those fights made me tear up.
The best we've ever had and I'm glad he's going to be honoured. I hope he gets cheered for as loudly as Tavares was booed tonight lol.
You're the best Iggy!!
Also, I motion that we change our avatars to something Iggy for his retirement. I did when Conroy retired and haven't touched my avatar since.
Edit: Now if only I can figure how out to change my avatar after all these years...
The only footage existing on YouTube of the Flames' Game 6 WCF win over San Jose was footage from ESPN. Until yesterday, that was true. Enjoy this CBC footage. #ThankYouIggy

Closest personal story I have of Iginla is circa 2002 .... my wife was part of a youth charitable organization at the time. One of her co-workers had helped out with an Iginla camp, and the later invited Iginla to a fundraiser dinner. He anonymously made a significant contribution. Anonymously. Class act.
And this is probably posted elsewhere, but I'll put the 2004 flashback here too.
And this one:

The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!

You just linked to my ESPN footage twice.
